CTB is "Cell to Body" not "cell to battery." The actual cells bolt together to provide the structure. They did not copy Tesla, which uses non-structural cells in a heavy case filled with rigid foam to provide structure. Structural cells are a significant development over using the pack case as structure. Having structural cells reduces the need to package the cells, increasing overall volumetric energy density.

To me, Byd is making their wall battery essentially one big battery, and eliminating it as an assemblage of individual batteries. So yeah, it could be much more dense that way, and cheaper. That is what you can do if you make your own batteries the way BYD does. I don't think anyone else could do this except possibly CATL.

I am 'shopping' for a home battery system here near Adelaide, and BYD batteries are already on offer. Whether they are the latest 'blade' battery I do not know, or even greatly care. What is important is that Tesla have a very serious rival. Keeps 'em on the ball !

In Texas Tesla is not an electric provider but you can only sign up if you have at least one Powerwall. Other brands of storage batteries don't qualify. So BYD need to also become a provider and use virtual power plant software like Tesla. Competition is a good thing.

Breaking it up. MC Cube is not residential storage. The smallest unit in the series is 536 kWh from a roughly 1 square meter footprint. Packaged in a standard 20 ft container size (MC Cube ESS), 5.36 MWh, more than twice the energy density of the "Megapack." BYD also had over twice the total energy storage scale of Tesla, as of the end of last year.

Here in the states we already have a competitor to Tesla Powerwall batteries: the Generac PWRcell home batteries. I'd like to see you compare all three -- and any others that may be available -- in a future video.

Yay, competition, this should accelerate release of cheaper version using Sodium, Aluminium or Zinc that much quicker now

Lithium should be reserved for transport solutions. Batteries that do not move could use heavy, cheaper, abundant stuff like the Zinc flow batteries. I guess the only reason we are using Lithium for household storage is because the volumes produced for EVs brought their production costs down out competing more sensible options. In the longer term, it would be better for those options to ramp up production.

The Powerwall is not very common in Europe because we have 3-Phase power here and for a good home battery it should be a high voltage system with a matching inverter and optimizers for the solar panels. A very good solution like this is the Huawei Luna system which is better than both, BYD and Powerwall in my opinion...

The structural strength will allow for you to stack more modules or reduce the need for addition structural support to account for weight of the batteries above.

LFP as grid scale is interesting but also I wonder if proper software management of the system makes LFP's biggest advantage a non factor. Its not as if most grid level batteries are used from 0 to 100%. And a good thermal and power management system will ensure that never happens.

In the end, you have to trust Tesla knows the pros and cons and are confident their battery tech has a better long term future.
