Cat C and Cat D, total loss, insurance write off cars explanation and advice

Neither is better than the other. It's just what the cost of the repair is in relation to what the car is worth.

So Cat C means less damage than Cat D? (In relation to value of car). I always assumed Cat D was the worst

Hi mate thanks for the video, I bought a 2002 micra 3door as my first car in UK just a few days ago, it has a clear MOT history, no sign of damage to the front and back. drove it 55 miles on motorway after i purchased it, drives straight does not pull left or right, but after I see a letter D on the green slip I was just wondering what that D is and I finally ended up with HPi check which shows written-off CAT D dated on 2016. the car has couple of dents and few age related marks and scratches and tiny break in brake light. So, ,, in 2016 this car was 14 years old, could this tiny bits of scratches and few dents cause a CAT D on a 14 year old Micra ??

Hi I have purchased a cat S car, it came with no papers or documents. What is the procedure to put it back on the road please. Is there like an inspection the car has to pass. Or just apply for new documents and take it in for an MOT ?

When my friend repairs cat d many are ford, he takes a lot of pictures to show customers the car was not a scrap block lol. Its sometimes cheaper if you do a lot of the same models to get a couple of cat b cars as doner vehicles, cat b cannot be put back on the road but you can use most of the parts. Typical price cat b fiesta £270

I know this is from a while back, but thought I’d ask a question... I’m currently looking at a 15 plate Civic type R GT with 30k on the clock. it’s a Cat D write off. I’ve asked the seller what the damage was and if they have documentation of everything that was repaired. Just wanted your take on what you think the damage may have been? I’m considering getting the RAC to do a 248 point check on it as well. Cheers mate

Looking to get a CAT C 15 reg Golf as first car- photos show no damage and all damage is said to be fixed. Ofc I will check it out before purchasing, but will it be a problem insuring?

When you insure a repaired Cat C or D, do you have to inform the insurer the car was a 'write off' & does it affect the premium?

I’d personally go for cat x or cat d with back or side dameage, bolt on jobs are perfect. But remover for a car too be category cat d is when the car has 50 percent more damage than car value. This is viewing point. Not accurate, own research is needed.
