Here's What Those Numbers On Your Egg Carton Really Mean

Buying eggs has become quite complicated as of late. There are so many varieties of eggs to choose from these days — be it white, brown, organic, free-range, or corn-fed — that the list can seem endless.

With so many options, sometimes it’s just easier to pick whichever egg carton has the farthest "best by" date. However, did you know the "best by" date isn’t the only way to check for the freshest eggs?

Check any egg carton, and you’ll see a bunch of numbers written under the "best by" date. These code-like digits could change the way you shop for eggs forever. Here’s what those numbers on your egg carton really mean.

I walk out my back door and get an egg from one of my 7 chickens. I do not wash the shells until I use them because the same moisture that lubricates the egg for easy passage through the hen and then it leaves a protective coating that preserves the egg for months. And while I do refrigerate my eggs technically I wouldn't need to. I use the dirtiest eggs first. And when I use them I Crack them into a little bowl individually since the eggs have not been candled. Today it is -3F. I wish I didn't have chickens. But when weather is nice they roam my property

Bs eggs in cold storage are good for 90 days so if the exp date is two weeks away, so ur eggs are 2 and half months old thats why they peel easier than farm fresh eggs

actually the best spot in your refrigerator is the door and no the coldest spot isn't the best spot as eggs can last longer as eggs use to be unrefrigerated in stores but that was because of non pasteurization.Eggs in the door actually help keep egg yokes moving in the shell which will keep them fresher.why do you think the egg compartment is in the door?a lot of study was done before this was the standard in refrigerators.

people switch eggs out of cartons all the time in supermarkets. Some of this is useless

Now for the hard part; when boiling eggs, which is better? New eggs or older eggs? 🤔
Hmmmm, let the debate begin!

I don’t give a shit, I lived this long, I have had my eggs in my fridge for a month and still are them, no harm done. I grew up old school and I am not germphobic, I never get sick either, people put two and two together.

Well i must have super buy them on sale..pick up 3 cartons....I have these for months and i had 8 cartons for 3 people...me i really have to kill a egg to eat them...that means have to have cheese butter black olives and salsa on on eggs to eat them....Well in my opinon if i have to do all that - i may just don't like eggs....So there are only 2 people in the house that like we all love deviled eggs....Invested the other day in a egg cooker....love it....because i knew i should get these eggs eaten....after probably have had them 8 MONTHs in the carton and on the 2nd to bottom have had a BAD egg yet, just buy general large doing this for 36 yrs....and was a cashier for a grocery chain for 28 i really buy this stuff like a major grocery store chain...not Wallie Mart or any of the warehouse u watch the ads....this stuff usually goes on sale seasonally like best time to buy Turkeys the cheapest THANKSGIVING-not CHRISTMAS....and if you love TURKEY and want cheap meat buy 6 of these birds...cook and shred them and put in freezer bags....pull out a handfull in a bowl cover with water. Put in the microwave and there you have Turkey soup can add noodles if you want and put salt & pepper and butter in it. Your for this so called FRESH MEAT FRESH you are going that route...better ask the store to let you go look at that COW or CHICKEN so they can Cut it for some stores....have their so called what i call WORMY the 85% 15% in the them regrid muCh better-if they ask why? Tell them because it taste like CRAP! and believe me it will be those young kids behind they do not COOK! But my son does (22) but he tells them the same thing! AGain your weLcome!

If you want FRESH this and that need to go to a FARMER that will sell you that COW-HOG-CHICKEN or EGGS....Yes this city gal that has lived out in the COUNTRY for 33 years....had bought from the farmer these me tell is a difference in taste compaired to any grocery do have to pay for processing your meat....and your freezer will not be able to hold it all...we are luck we have a processing place-have to tell them what you want and how you DOES take some thinking....Haha and they will keep it / store it for you....REally cheap on the fees a mean dirt cheap! DO you save on buying food this way....NO usually comes out the price of the grocery stores when it is NOT on SaLe. So that is option....for people that REALLY WANT FRESH! Just telling the truth! Only draw back of this....you have to pay for all this all at once. AND should have a Freezer to put this i do have a OPINON on

Have had this Kemore for 33 yrs....goes out - start looking for a NEW freezer-only get the was in 2019 this happened....Thinking well i should go more energy efficient....Haha....well forget that....they are made soo cheap....everything plastic and tabs will break...no way these would hold 3 -26lb Turkey's or 6-12lb Turkey's (learned how to cook them in a crock pot-soo good) Soo called a place that sells the ones he repairs and does repair work- it was a $25.00 part said 2 parts if went out would be $200.00 & $300.00 + plus his labor was not bad....coming to a price of a NEW FREEZER....well guess what it is worth it to me....because i do Love my Kenmore that was made 33 yrs ago....and not cheaply made!

Soo the next time you want to go to the store and buy FRESH - ORGANIC i would think twice....Go to a FARMER instead....on FRESH EGGS i KNOW you do have to use them up fasT!
No i am not a FARMER....just a gal that loves antiques so went and bought a 1865 house that happened to have 5 acres with it! and YES i do buy all my groceries at a Major Change- Aldi's i buy bread- lettuce- potatoes cucumbers when they are cheaper than my store....Walmart buy my White Grape Water they are always out of-their Salsa-Green Olives-but are always out-Dean's dip-cheaper than anyone-their fat free cottage cheese -and their shredded bags of have a Sam's membership-buy Gas-egg rolls-McCormick Gravy-Splenda and peanut M'M's for hubby....We just got a Costco's....have not really been there - did you know you do not have to be a member to shop there? Just pay the 5% more and anyone can shop there and order online without being a member-been told they are higher than Sam's but those Hotdogs with a POP is a deal....according to this site and my family. Also, this site said they are UNION....so for some that may be a good thing or bad thing....SAM's is NOT UNION!

Got off topic here....Good Luck with buying EGGS....good information to know on this video...but believe me when you get a bad egg you will know....and it does matter where you shop...Forgot to say this food chain Aldi's does have cheap milk-do not buy it there because it does go bad....Milk you CAN keep past the expiration date - still good to drink - but your tongue will tell you when it is bad. Cheese freeze it-if not can go bad in the fridge-on block cheese it it bad...cut it off and eat the rest - it will be still good to eat!
