Tropical Storm Ian remains forecast to rapidly intensify and become a hurricane sometime Monday, according to the National Hurricane Center. Forecasters warn that Florida — especially the western Gulf coast, including Tampa Bay up to the Panhandle — should continue to monitor Ian's progress.

As of the 8 p.m. Sunday advisory, Tropical Storm Ian was located about 160 miles south-southeast of Grand Cayman, with sustained winds of 60 mph. Ian's movement is west-northwest at 12 mph.

NHC also says Tropical Storm Ian is expected to produce significant wind and storm surge impacts in western Cuba.

The NOAA hurricane hunters surveillance jet earlier this morning found Tropical Storm Ian continuing to organize over the central Caribbean.

Four weeks ago i declared the Gulf safe from Hurricanes this year. Was mostly looking at the August 29th fore cast. Go well with this one Florida and God Bless
Pack up some ice, fill your water storage and prepare for a week without electricity. May the lovely cool days August gave us(Louisiana) return.

I believe scientists and engineers should be working on ways to stop these in their track. I understand satellites can detect an eye forming when its about 1/4
of a mile across. Small enough to have one of the weaker walls blown apart with munitions or microwave technology. It's time we try to control this terrible life threatening hazard.
