Stories and narratives are powerful tools. We live in a time where we are witnessing the power of stories, whether for good or for bad. Misinformation is rife today but the bending of truths in stories has been common practice for a long time.

History has often been used to move the narrative of countries, society, and cultures for thousands of years. Winners write history, after all, and losers are never heard from again until power shifts. It’s why we’ve made a video of historical lies that will make you rethink your entire education. Did we leave out any glaring historical lies?

When I was in school, a teacher said Antarctica is the world's largest iceberg and it stays at the bottom of the world because it is so heavy. Another teacher said computers are just a passing fad. Another teacher said sharks are mammals.

Albert was in fact so brilliant at school that all the other kids called him "Einstein".

My mom's mother was one of the ones who thought "War of the Worlds" was real and was panicking. My mom remembered that being a widespread thing.

Also never believe anything Hollywood teaches you. Their movies are both historically inaccurate and insulting to the truths. Its shocking how many people believe what they see in movies. Remember movies are designed to be cinematically compelling such is entertainment.

Yes the fact that Pilgrims didn't dress in black and white is going to "make me rethink my entire education"

Unfortunately History often has a tendency to repeat itself over and over as we've seen throughout time

I remember reading that in the 1600s the puritans of Massachusetts played a game that was much like baseball. They loved it so much it was banned in some places because it interfered with church going.

Of course the Pilgrims wore black and white! Everybody did before the invention of colour film!

No, no, no! The idea that Puritans dressed in black and white didn't come from some nebulous idea of people "dressing in more simple colors". It comes from the fact that the only images we usually have of people back then are portraits, for which everyone wore their _best_ clothes. These tended to be the clothes they wore for their wedding or for special occasions, and tended to be black and white because black was a color used for formal occasions in England and clean white linen was a sign of both wealth and good health. Jesus, if you're going to pretend to authority, do some RESEARCH other than Wikipedia!

I was taught that Albert Einstein was having severe problems at school because the teachers couldn't hold his attention for any length of time.he got bored with his classes.

In 1947, a motorcycle club called Hell's Angels, made up of veterans from the Eighth Air Force, spent a weekend in Hollister, California. According to eyewitnesses interviewed 50 years later, it was a quiet, largely uneventful weekend, unlike others in which miners from surrounding areas came to squander their pay cheques. Life Magazine invented a weekend of terror, which boosted their circulation a lot. Incidentally, the fat oaf photographed with a bottle in each hand was a drunk on his way home, when the camera crew sat him on the bike and made pictures.

Makes me wonder if my life has been a lie.

The 4th of July so called lie is really a stretch, considering every other piece of legislation use the standard for the date they were signed.

I know that most of what we think we know is a lie.
