What is Single Pair Ethernet (SPE)?

preview_player
Показать описание
SPE enables continuous Ethernet communication down to the sensor level and also offers a compact and cost-effective connection of Ethernet and power via only one pair of wires. Different requirements of factory, process and building automation apply here. The two-wire technology enables efficient cabling solutions for IP20 and IP6x environments, for high data rates of up to 10 GBit/s and in the "Advanced Physical Layer" (APL) version for long transmission distances of up to 1000 meters and in hazardous areas up to zone 0.

<- is a fan already. Bringing Ethernet to the last meters is a great deal, that will enable a bunch of new control-systems in the field. Especially in cooperation with easy customizable SCADA systems like epics, this will be a huge deal in smaller companies.

Was there really a need to come up with yet another new protocol in the already oversaturated pool protocols and interfaces? What is the benefit of this “SPE” over already existing systems like profinet, ethercat, ethernet IP, IO link, ... ?

what about noise, crosstalk. much of the reason for 4 pair and shielding is corruption from noise. How is this addressed ? otherwise aren't we just back to modems...
