My friend is half Russian half Moldovan.. he thinks it's time for Moldovia to become Russian.. mostly because the country is a disaster when it comes to poverty.. he himself was born in Moldavia and later moved to Russia with his family and he is really happy about it cuz his future in Moldova would be nothing. It is Europe's poorest country.
I don't have a direct opinion on this.. I think you should mostly listen to the local population and not opinions of what westerners say and think.

Participants of protests are mostly in retirement age, who lived in Soviet Union times. After change of generation russian impact will be definitely lover. Most of young people want to match Moldova with European Union. A lot of them travel by Europe because they have romanian passports. Language situation also will be different in the future. Young people don't lern russian language now in schools. First foreign language in schools is english (russian and italian is second language in some schools). It will separete them from russian canal of information.
