Researchers say a pack of wild canines found frolicking near the beaches of the Texas Gulf Coast carries a substantial amount of red wolf genes, a surprising discovery because the animal was declared extinct in the wild nearly 40 years ago.

This literally brought tears to my eyes. It is an absolute shock that some of the Red Wolf DNA still flows through their veins. Such beautiful animals.

I had the privilege of being in an enclosure with the last red wolves caught in east Texas before being shipped out to Tacoma Washington. I also witnessed several canines that came off of Galveston Island that carried a considerable amount of Red wolf blood in them. They were extremely beautiful calm animals. The size and beautiful cinnamon coloration on their head and muzzle was beyond belief. A couple even had that cinnamon coloration running down their forelegs. This was in 1981-82 if my memory serves me right, I am 74 years old now. I have worked with hundreds of coyotes and there is a difference between them and an animal carrying Red wolf blood. It was a privilege of a life time to witness these beautiful animals in person. No, I am not a trapper. It broke my heart to see such a beautiful animal exterminated from the wild. There was Red wolf blood on Galveston Island in the early 1980's.

Here in Eastern NC we have the last/only red wolf population- about 30/40. Incredible creatures,

I saw a wolf in the Oregon forest east of Ashland in 1994, but nobody believed me.

Now the fact that wolves are living in Oregon again is common knowledge~

I saw what was definitely a red wolf. 8/8/2020 run across the highway 20 near Dixie Inn Louisiana. Very red, taller than any dog or coyote. Long loping strides unlike a coyote. Very long legs with large paws.

I have multiple videos of them howling in St. Clair county Alabama and have had 2 sightings in Moody. I wish everyday I could’ve got it on camera, but couldn’t get them out quick enough. I have videos of them howling on my channel. They’re not extinct at all. The government kept them in captivity, bred them for years, and finally released them a few years ago. And this was on Lookout Mountain on the AL, TN, GA border. There’s a video on YouTube of it when you type “Tennessee Red Wolves” on YouTube.

Red wolves are not extinct. There are just around 20 of them in the wild left because humans. Honestly.

I saw a tan/ orange coyote in Bonita Springs Fl, it was surprisingly larger than the grey and black ones I’ve seen before this one. I’m so amazed by it that the reason I’m on this video is because I’m looking for similar colored coyotes!

I live in South florida, I was at a park at 11 pm and I saw a red wolf running walking. Coyotes are small, this animal was big, at first I thought it was a domestic dog so i looked around but there wasn't an owner, it was all alone. I followed it and it started running

It looked like a red wolf. Bigger than a normal coyote

There’s been a couple sightings of what people have believed to be red wolves in Florida in the last few years. A full pack out west of boynton off of beeline hwy and one out west in fort pierce.

Red wolves are a hybrid of coyotes and the wolf. There is only one species of wolf, based on genetic research. That being said, this pack of beautiful hybrid "red wolves" are a treasure for Galveston and should be protected.
