When I was home with bronchitis, my grey kept saying, “Hey Hon? “ He repeated it for hours. Finally I said, “What?” And he said, “Are you OK?” I almost fell off the couch. I said, “Yeah I’m OK.” After that he didn’t ask me again. People think parrots just repeat or mimic what they hear - that there is not a real intelligent process behind it. That proved to me that they do associate words with situations - even if it’s one they haven’t experienced before. They are very smart.

A friend took in an African Grey after his neighbor passed away and the bird started speaking like the dead person. Scared the hell out of him

Greys are so smart. When our baby grey gets tired he says, "Is it bedtimes for little bird?"

One thing a lot of people don't realize is that African greys actually have cognitive language skills. They have the ability to not just repeat words, but understand their meaning as well.

He doesn’t use “fowl” language. I appreciate that polite bird

It’s not that Einstein talks so amazingly well, but he also uses his body in an expressive way. He really is astounding.

It's not just his speech, it also shows what an unbelievable memory this bird has.

He’s like a sound box. Not only does he talk, he does sound effects, barks when he says dog, sounds an alarm. Incredible. He had so many different voices too. Am he even talks with his hands.

We had a blue and gold macaw when I was growing up. UPS guy knocked on the door one day to drop off a package. Of course when he heard a knock he had to yell "Come on in take your shoes off!".. My mom walked in the living room after a few minutes to find the man sitting on the couch with his shoes off. You can't make that shit up 😂

"Want some water?" Followed by picture-perfect sound of water splashing is just remarkable!

I noticed how Einstein plays, not only with the combinations of words, but also with the tone, pitch, and emphasis he places within each. It also seems that he tends to group words in like associations. For example, 'wet', 'drink', 'water', and the water sound are grouped together, animal identifiers, both names and sounds are grouped together. He even groups the comforting words together, 'it's alright', 'don't be scared, and 'are you okay?'. Pretty smart bird, Einstein!
