“Sure you have, ” Sara said. “You know the drill, stay close, build fast, and never trust anyone outside of our squad.”

Sara and Eli were still chatting, unaware of what had just popped up.

“Max, you there?” Eli’s voice came through the headset.

Max clicked the message before he could stop himself. The screen turned white, and for a moment, everything froze. Then, with a flash, the colors exploded—vivid greens, blues, and reds—and before he knew it, Max was no longer sitting in his room.

Instead, he was standing on a strange island, the wind howling in his face. His feet sank into the soft, sandy beach, and he could feel the hum of energy in the air.

“What… what is this?” Max murmured.

“Max?” Sara’s voice crackled through his headset. “Max, what’s going on?”

“I’m not sure, ” he replied, looking around. The island stretched out in every direction, lush and vibrant, but there was something eerie about it.

Suddenly, an announcement blasted through the air, coming from nowhere and everywhere at once.

“Welcome to the Fortnite Tournament. The game begins now.”

Max’s heart raced. This wasn’t just another game. Something about this was real.
