Most of the reviews I've read from Scotland were positive. However most Scots despise the historical inaccuracy of Braveheart. A lot of people look at Outlaw King as a refreshing historically accurate outlook on Robert the Bruce

BY THESE SWANS! Has to be one of the weirdest bits in the film. And somehow it's also entirely historically accurate. I love it. And intend to make all my future vows on poultry.

A line from the Scottish National Anthem...…"And stood against them-Proud Edwards army-And sent him homeward tae think again " ….When you see Robert letting Edward Prince Of Wales go at the end of the movie it is a nod to the Scottish National Anthem -expertly done by Scottish director David Mackenzie....He was sent homeward to think again .

They could have a Game of Thrones sized epic on their hands if they had done this justice with a series.

The story is too big for a single movie. It would be like putting the whole America war of independence in one movie or all of ww2 in one movie.
The opening scene was fantastic. The costumes were wonderful. Fabulously wealthy lords wore expensive clothes and they wore different clothes for going to meet the king or going to a wedding compared to the clothes you wear in the field

Seriously have to say this is probably one of the best reviews I've ever seen of anything I've watched, thanks so much :)

You hit on the points that I had about the film. I didn't feel like Pine had the passion I had expected, I wasn't as invested in the end battle, I was also confused about the Bruce Brothers, and I was left dumbfounded by the release of Edward II in the end. Great discussion. Thank you

I understand that we are getting into more modern history - but - if you want to see a good historical Netflix movie that flew under many peoples radar, then you should watch the The Siege of Jadotville: it's about the (sadly) rather forgotten episode in Irish military history when Irish peacekeepers held their ground for as long as possible against superior numbers during the Congo Crisis in 1960s. I think that with movies like Outlaw King and The Siege of Jadotville Netflix has shown that they have what it takes to make good films.

Good conversation! I watched the movie because of your recommendation and was very happy with it. Let's cross our fingers and hope this movie ushers in a new era of (somewhat) historically accurate epics!

Edward II involvement in this film spoiled the film. The end ruined the film completely for me. It didn’t hit on 90% of historical events that should have been involved. Elizabeth was not hung in a cage she was imprisoned however King Roberts sisters and daughter were hung in cages outside castle walls. His brother Neil was hung drawn and quartered. His other brothers Thomas and Alexander were captured and executed. The fact his brother Edward was no where to be see is astounding. Also The Good Sir James Douglas was made out to be some sort of mad maniac not the great warrior tactician he was.

I’ve heard people talking about a trilogy.I’m looking forward to seeing Angus MacFadyen’s Bruce film next year.

They probably didn’t make Robert the Bruce a big strong guy because that would just make him seem like William Wallace.

I read the translated version of John Barbour's 'The Brus' years ago. The Brus was originally in the form of an epic poem which was written around the mid 1370's. John Barbour had spoken to people who actually met or seen the characters like Sir James Douglas, so in my my mind its the source to refer to. Throughout the movie I could see some events that diverged from the narrative which was fine given the time frame for the movie.

But what happened at the end of the movie was a real travesty. Firstly I was like, "Why the heck is Edward II there? He wasn't at this battle.", then, "Why did he just charge into battle?" and then, "What the hell is this fight?"..."Why is everyone just standing there looking at him? Ransom, RANSOM!" as It was common practice to capture knights and lords and hold them for ransom.

I think the story writers tried to convey the symbolic battle between Bruce and Edward in the coming years through this fight imagery. Like how the imagery of entrusting the crown to the boy, represented how Bruce acknowledges the crown belongs to the people of Scotland. Words along a similar lines as stated in the Declaration of Arbroath. The boy dying in battle representing the sacrifices made by the people for independence.

I don't believe there will be any other films, simply based on how it ended.

Can anyone explain the origin of the wedding ceremony with the cloth over them?

As a Scot I really enjoyed the film but I think Bruce wasn't portrayed strongly enough. His character wasn't my favourite which it really needed to be. Hope there is a follow up movie with Battle of Bannockburn included. As for Braveheart most Scots I know love it and forgive it's inaccuracies just because it's a great movie.

I agree that "letting" the king go was ridiculous, and they could have had him rescued, but it's the same kind of logic that has a fist fight break out in a gun movie, or two female characters magically find each other to fight it out. One thing I wondered about the final battle, was what happened to all the archers the English used to shoot up the forest? It seemed like they would make short work of 500 men clustered in a small group like that.

Outlaw/King is 100% better than Braveheart. I am Scottish and I loved it. I thought the end was a little historical inaccurate but over all the film was cool. It would have been cool to see the battle of bannock burn.

I LOVED that long shot beginning. True craft.

I've no watched this whole video .... but as a film ... i enjoyed the story ... i personally would like to see the whole uncut version of the film .. to see if the actual tale of the spider in the cave etc made it .. the end the fight between edward an robert never happened it actually happened between himself and his 2nd cousin tbe earl of an there is bits missing etc from the story or not exact but i thought wasny bad .... if you want accuracy then pick up a book ... am hoping the rumours are true the full version will be made available.. and possibly the inclusion of further films to include the rest of his the whole i enjoyed the film espically as much of the filming was around East compared to other "historically" films its actually pretty good

Hi, does anyone know if the longer version of Outlaw King will ever be released on Netflix or other platforms?
