I love how fuzzy the velvet 'ant' is! She's a very gorgeous insect. I also love your sticker art, it's amazing! Honestly I'm considering buying one to put on my water bottle.

I used to own a velvet ant for a few months after I found her missing 2 legs and having walking issues on the ground. I picked her up and kept her, and she died only 3 months later. It was probably the end of her life, or she could've come in contact with parasites before I found her.

Fun fact: If you cook desert beetles they become edible and are very rich in nutrients.

Follow up comment/question... Don't velvet ants have an incredibly painful sting?!

I know an arid environment is natural for them but I heard they're extremely hardy. Would they care if the enclosure was more humid?

This was interesting. It was like making a home from the ground up. Out of curiosity are there vendors that also sell enclosures that are pre-created? Or are enclosures only made from the ground up by the insect owner? So basically one can choose to create the type of ideal enclosure for their insect pets or are there also those who sell or have enclosures pre-created for purchase. I know you're a self-made type of person, but was just curious if pre-created enclosures were a thing also.

Sorry this is really nitpicky but I’m from an area with cholla and its pronounced Cho-y-a not cholla

Big fan of the rest of your video and I loved seeing the cutie patooties you had in your hand!

At Walmart they sell something called slammers which is a paste made up of organic fruits and vegetables with some whey protein, it comes in squeeze pouches, it makes good bug feed, i use it to gutload my dubia cockroaches since they eat it faster than any fresh fruits or vegetables i give them, i wonder if velvet ants would also like it
