Changing Nissan CVT trans fluid.

This will be a remake of many similar videos I have made on this vehicle. My hope is that this is the clearest version that I will have made to date, with four of the most asked questions asked on this kind of oil change, answered.
Thanks for watching!

•Dipstick ⤵️

•The CVT FLUID I've used for over 100, 000 k ⤵️

Excellent demonstration on changing the CVT! I also have a 2014 S model and changed the trans fluid a few years ago. I actually purchased one of the Malufosa dip sticks and found a serious problem with them - it read low fluid and when I checked the over flow it was right on point. I wrote up a review and asked Malufosa to contact me about it because I love the fact that they made the dipstick.

Anyway, thanks again for posting this. I learned that I’ve been going WAY to long between changes and need to get out in the garage soon.

Great video. Thanks!
There are 2 CVT oil filters on the 2013 altima: One inside the oil pan, another paper filter on the exterior for the oil cooler. Both should be changed at about 90-100 thousand miles. And clean the interior of the oil pan at that time also. There is a good video out there for doing a complete 8 quart flush also. It's just a little more work.

I did 120, 000 on to the first change. Buy only Nissan CVT fluid. Go to Valvoline and make a CVT transmissions flush $199, but bring your Nissan CVT fluid 5-6 qt $100-120. After the flush it will not slip and run strong again.
It will cost you $300-$320 every 60, 000-80, 000 miles but it's worth it as you car drives like new again..My car has 295, 000 miles on it now 2017 Altima ( I drive Uber)

Valvoline makes great transmission fluids. I’m going to use their cvt fluid on my 16 crv.

Make sure you can get to and open the transmission fill cap and refill with the funnels on hand before draining guys. For the Nissan Versa Note I also needed a 5mm hex to unscrew inside the transmission pan to further empty fluid.

A lot dont know that nissan CVTs have two filters. The second is like a exposed element on some engine oil filters. It monts on the side of the CVT from the drivers side.

U are almost correct! There is indeed 2 filters up till 2016 then one inline filter only on the outside of the transmission. Very important to change it, takes 5 minutes. And amsoil is the only synthetic transmission fluid that is a 100% synthetic, the other companies are running anywhere from 5 to 10% and can legally call it a full synthetic.

raising the back is extra work. measure what you take out. and then put new back the same. take off stand and measure when on level ground. and make sure you are checking the levels when at 165 degrees. running

I have a 2015 Nissan Rogue AWD with 45K miles.
I did CVT fluid flush with a filter change, used the same OEM oil strainer after clean it, new oil pan gasket, new O ring washers, and new crush washer. The oil I used is Amsoil CVT fluid.
I used this method:

AMSOIL... Best cvt fluid. Buttery smooth and cvt searches less for the appropriate position on pulley... can’t really say gear now eh??

This makes me feel so much comfortable doing drain and fills on my 2018 rogue. The check bolt makes getting the right level pretty idiot proof. Im a big fan of AMSOIL too and will be using it. I just changed my transfer case and rear differential and used AMSOIL. Granted I can't feel a difference driving but Im sure its better than what was in it.

Now in 2024, Nissan SC is using NS3 for even first generation of CVT gearbox for Nissan bluebird 2.0. This is happening in Malaysia.

since 2012 Nissan has been adding pleated oil filters behind the oil cooler on all their CVT transmission. I just found that out today on my Nissan nv200. You definitely want to change that filter.

There is also a paper filter on the side of the transmission the transmission cooler that should be changed as well as the strainer filter in the pan and a new pan gasket installed
It's like doing an oil change on your car without changing the filter ... and who would do that.

27 ft lbs is the torque spec, change the crush washer it’s 88cents and could save you having to replace all the fluid again. Use the torque wrench, these pans aren’t cheap and are a pain in the ass to replace.

This seems to get-around the design defect: Keep 'em cool as many ways of reduced coolant/distilled water ratios, both filters and best cvt fluid each 30k, allow set overnight or allow 8 hours for full warm drain to obtain around 5.5 quarts if not flushing, seal all air leaks of radiator plenum (Time -consuming), keep radiators clean. I'm now 209k Mojave hard-and-hot conditions, full AC

Copper washer is damaged after 1 used. it's has no use for second time.. may work may not depending how lucky you are
10 cents why not swap out? No worry in the long run
