Keenly, Rob, dry lightning happens when lightning strikes from cloud to very dry ground in a thunderstorm. Lightning can reach 50, 000F especially if it is a positive strike. So with this superheat - if there is not enough moisture or water on the ground where the lightning hit to stave off lightning's extreme heat - you can spontaneously combust nearly anything in a flash. That is why stacked oil-soaked rags on dry brush that get struck by lightning in dry thunderstorms will instantly ignite into fire as fast as you can blink an eye!
