best thing i've ever learned when drawing mouths, the creepier you want the character's smile to be, the more detailed you make the teeth

bro as a fellow artist i think that the first teeth looks fine in some art styles and the 2nd in others both are good in their own ways

it's all about what style you going for. first one was fine and second one was fine too.

It does look better but it changes the emotion of the smile

I think both work well depending on how the character smiles--which style you go with can imply a lot for each frame, even!

It’s a completely stylistic choice, there is no “better version”. If you want a very cartoon-esque face, then go with #1, or even simpler with just the smiles outline. If you want more realism to your character then do 2, or even further with some shading

Tip for horror artists: The bigger the gums, the scarier it looks.
Edit: why are people still replying after 6 months.

Edit 2: this is my most liked comment now. thanks i guess.

Edit 3: 7 MONTHS YALL!!!

Edit 4: 8 months, and people are still replying!

I love how all your videos are just you viewing your art style and technique as the only valid one. This is why you'll be left behind when others prosper

The "better version" is the Solo Leveling statue 💀

First one are typical good guy teetlh when other are a bad guy teeth. If you watch alot of anime you can see that many bad guy's have more detalic teeth then good guy's. Sorry for my English

Just a tip that I’ve always used: showing the gums makes a character appear more angry, masculine, creepy, or insane depending on the rest of the piece. Same thing with divisions between the teeth. That’s why chibi art usually just has a solid bar for the teeth, if anything at all. The more defined, the less cute or trustworthy the person looks, typically. Obviously this isn’t a hard rule, just something to keep in mind!

both are differ in their own way and will give off a vibe.. if you use the first it looks plain and simplw its best to be drawn with cute cartoony soft character and style.. the other one looks a bit detailed it creates a bit of a noise if you put it in your illustration unless you have the shonen style or you are giving off some serious vibes with it.. try doing it on your illustrations draw a very cute anime style drawing then put that detailed teeth on the smiles you'll see..
