In-vehicle Networking Technologies Compared - AutomotiveEthernet (100BASE-T1, 1000BASE-T1, 10BASE-T1s), CAN-FD, LIN, FlexRay, MOST, SerDes, A2B

We will cover a basic overview of some of the most popular in-vehicle or automotive networking technologies. Each technology is then compared to the others based on selection criteria including: costs, maximum supported data payloads, addressing methods, topologies, supported communication types, cabling considerations, versatility and others.

Agenda:

This presenter did an excellent job of keeping things relevant, simple and not getting into the weeds (like most engineers tend to do). I’ll be coming back to visit your site in the future.

Really good and helpful talk. I think you missed out on one important part of why Bosch chose CAN be a bus-topology. In a car, you have dozens to hundreds of CU's from different vendors and as an OEM you want to keep the vendors interchangable. So you need a lot of one-to-many communication, information like board voltage, vehicle speed, tire speed is measured at one node and is communicated with all devices.
So for the board voltage example, you could either choose:
CAN with one sensor for voltage and a message that is received by 100 nodes.
Ethernet with either one sensor on each node or layers of switches with 100 end nodes.
I'm certain that Ethernet will be the dominant backbone of a car from now on, but the way CAN work leaves some benefits that Automotive Ethernet needs to fill in.

Hello Mr. Correa,

I currently work for an interior company (tier I) to OEM's and I want to focus into lighting and electronics, your video has helped me a lot to understand regarding software technologies but is there a training or Master Degree maybe that you would recommend please? I studied international trade so is hard for me to keep up technically with these topics
