Do I have to use the touch controls? Or can I use my keyboard and mouse still? I play a lot of steam, but I also use Skype and stuff a lot to type on.

Why not use the 5 finger tracking to type things? You could merge Q/A and A/Z keys, and then use auto-correct to type things. You could also improve support for simultaneous keys, for example, if you press JK or AS + any key it would be equivalent to Shift without having to move your pinky onto shift.

Looks pretty sweet for apps and games that rely exclusively on touch or mouse input. For typing though the on-screen keyboard definitely isn't anywhere near the level of a real, physical keyboard.

The windows 10 touch keyboard pops up when I click a text box, but it does not recognize input on the on screen keyboard for some reason? I don't see the options under typing settings. did a windows 10 update break this?
