Anbernic RG406H In-Depth Review

Показать описание
The Anbernic RG406H is a nice collection of iterative upgrades that we've seen from this retro handheld manufacturer over the past year. It's easily the best 4:3 handheld they've ever made, but the question is: should you get this one, or the inevitable next release?

This was a review unit sent to me by the manufacturer. All opinions are my own, they did not see this review ahead of time, and no money was exchanged in any way.

Anbernic confirmed this morning that they have created a fix for the video out slowdown bug, and sent me videos of it working. The OTA update should be out in a couple days and will be included with all retail units. I’ll update this comment once I have the OTA and can confirm it’s fixed on my end too.

He's gonna ask you to watch a 40 minute video on a device you have no plans on buying; and you're gonna say "Yea man, I wanna do it."

We know you got this thing yesterday and yet there’s a 46 minute video THE NEXT DAY. You’re a master at this YouTube thing, I kind of want a bts to see your process. 😮

Every time a new device drops I think, “I need that” despite owning multiple other devices. By the time I’m done watching Russ’ videos I’m brought down to reality. You’ve equally saved me money and convinced me to just buy it.

I like to find out there are others just watching this video for the video, without any interest in actually buying the device.

I gotta hand it to you Russ, I watch content across a great deal of channels but the feeling I get when I see you’ve released a new video is unlike any other. Even though I may not be in the market for new toys, I enjoy so very much watching your videos. Thank you for the time and effort you put into these.

Pricey, but I really love that they’re putting out devices with frosted shells.

Another option for those not going the RP Mini/RP5 route, is getting the RP4 Pro, if you dont mind the device being 16x9. The price range is close to this device, provides better performance, and may be more pocketable. However you do lose on the ergonomics but that depends on whats more important to you. Lastly they do have a separate grip attachment if ergonomics is a concern.

I think the more relevant comparison is this device against the recently discounted RP4P. With more similar performance, it's mostly a 16:9 vs 4:3 battle.

Great video as always. Guess I'm waiting for a RG406 SP now

Pretty much exactly what I like; nice size 4:3 screen, performance, the same Cube ergonomics and I already know how to have everything up and running with my own front end and emulators in a couple of hours. I know the rp5 might be more bang for your buck but this is perfect for my gaming needs

Woah 180$?? I had to pause there and comment. At that point just get the RPmini ??? That’s a crazy price point during this time.

Hi Russ, another great review. I love when I see your new upload notification. Thanks to you, I saved a lot of money. Great content buddy. The flood of the handhelds is astonishing, and most of them are just a day1 e-waste. I dont have a much time to play, so I need to be really selective. Thanks for helping to sort this out.

The problem with Anbernic is they release too often instead of focus on the software aspect. These machines hardly gets any updates after few weeks after release. If they work more on the OS all of their devices would be much better. I'm still riding my 353V and waiting for RP5, which I believe receive more updates and support.

Reading the comments, it’s obvious why Anbernic releases so many of these things: everyone wants something different!!!

Just from an ergonomic standpoint, I really hope these catch on and anbernic continues making thicker grip handhelds. Being flat and pocketable is cool, but not a huge concern for me. I'd rather have something that's gonna stay comfortable in my hands and flat handhelds just make me cramp after a while of use.
