Risk 2210 A.D. Review - The Best Version Of Risk I've Played

Risk 2210 A.D. is yet another entry in the long series of Risk variants. Set in the not-so-distant future, battles are now fought by machines of destruction, known as MODs, for short. Human commanders still lead these mechanized troops, but these commanders each have special powers and abilities. These come into play via the use of Command cards, which add a new dimension to the game. Now the battle is not just for the continents, but the sea and moon are also battlegrounds.

Although much has been added, the basic flavor of the game is still Risk. One welcome change is the institution of a five-turn game limit, which allows the game to play to completion in about three hours. Further, players must also factor in economics in the form of energy. This energy is used to purchase command cards, bid for turn order, and hire new commanders. There is much more strategy and planning involved in this new version, but it should still appeal to the classic Risk fans.

5.0 - My absolutely favorite games. You can pry them out of my cold dead hands.
4.5 - Love this game! At the same time missing something that would make it a 5. Could be hard to table, lacking variability, a little light, etc.
4.0 - Really great game, almost always keeping, although has meaningful complaints as to what takes away from the experience.
3.5 - Really enjoyed, don't love it, may lose out to better games but the idea of never playing again is a bit sad.
3.0 - A good game, would play and suggest with the right people, if I never played it again wouldn't lose any sleep.
2.5 - A game I'd play again , but will never suggest it myself
2.0 - A game I don't want to play again
1.5 - A game I can't find any reason to recommend
1.0 - A game that is just bad.

Thank you for viewing this, It's my favorite version of Risk as well If you can get your hands on a copy of Spheres of influence (it is difficult to find) my friends and I refer to as good Risk and fixes all of the issues that I have with Risk mechanics.

I agree, this is probably my favorite version of Risk. I LOVE going to the Moon! The Armageddon Card is always EPIC! My second is Risk: Star Wars – Original Trilogy Edition.

Thanks for covering Risk: 2210 for us. It definitely has more to offer than the original.

Granted, my friends and I spent many hours playing the original and loved it - now, this was waaay back in the 1960s and 70s when the tokens weren't as cool, but they were better than Axis & Allies cardboard chits. It was something to do when we weren't blowing stuff up, launching homemade rockets (the two not exclusive), or filming our own claymation experiments. Yeah, board games have come a long way. OK, obnoxiously boring back story over.

I love Risk 2210 AD. I hope they bring back some of the expansions even if you can only acquire it through Hasbro Pulse.

We still play the original Risk with the Secret Missions and the following house rules:

• Each player starts with a General (Add +1 to one attack die)
• You may purchase more Generals for 5 Soldiers (3 Max on the board. Generals can't share a country)
• Each player starts with a Stronghold (Adds +1 to a die for Attack and Defense).
• You may purchase Strongholds for 3 Soldiers (2 Max on the board. Strongholds don't move, and only one in per country.)
• We use the advanced variations found in the rulebook.

I have to get this back on the table. It's been years since I've played it but I fondly remember it's a good one

Never played this version of risk but it looks a lot better than regular risk. I have fond memories of playing risk a kid. Now I want to give this a try

When did they start making different versions of Risk? I never knew they did this. But I’ve never felt Risk was too long, nor do the rich get richer. I’ve always wanted it to play longer and found things can change quickly.

Spheres of Influence is my best Risk, but better, game. Lots of good memories of this version though

I am old enough that there was only one Risk when growing up. It was probably the most popular Shabos game. And yeah, I have memories of a Winter Friday Night game taking 5 hours.

gawd, it has been a while since we played that one. it was a favorite for a very long time with us.
risk legacy was a delight, but we went back to 2210 every time we had a RISK urge.

My strategy of DOMINATE THE MOON, then hotdrop the earth with overwhelming force. It was hilarious.

For me, Small World basically replaced Risk as my game of choice in this style for its speed and more interesting decisions while keeping the dice roll advantaging the attacker and needing to think about how to move around your armies to control your areas on the map. But I might still play the original Risk once in a while if enough people are feeling nostalgic to play it, but I do require the revised version that Rob Daviau redesigned with objectives and rewards. I might be willing to try 2210 at a game night if someone brings it and wants to play, but I'm definitely past buying it or suggesting the game myself. (I still have a copy of Risk Onyx that I got from Barnes & Noble for cheap on clearance, but it's always on the verge of being given away whenever I need to cull my collection--it's survived for this long almost exclusively on my memories of playing Risk when I was a kid.)

As someone who owns risk and risk legacy, I’m sold despite never having played. #how to make friends to start a game night

Have you played a Brief History of the World or History of the World which I always compared and preferred to Risk? This was probably surpassed by Axis and Allies and then The War Room.

How do you feel about Memoir 44? I like that better than Risk, but nobody talks about it much. Odd to me.

I bought it years ago at toys r us and loved all the commanders and special abilities. Who doesn't want to nuke the moon?

In terms of Risk, my fav is Risk Star Wars. Love the different parallel fronts to fight on (getting rid of Death star's shield, Luke vs Vader, and ofc the main centre dogfights). My top of the line fav dudes on the map though have to go to Northgard. Exploration, neutral factions (animals, mythical creatures), card driven, love all of it. Second to Northgard is Kemet. I should try Bloodrage, looks quite good!

Lord of the rings: Trilogy edition is fantastic. A light version of “war of the ring”
