I recently got one that needed repairing, and I sent it to Dr. SX-70 in NM.
He got it fixed for only $75 and got it back to me in less than a week. Super cool to see others having fun with their SX-70s too :)

Glad to see people enjoying this camera!

General tip: Polaroid film is sensitive to light the first 10-20 seconds after exposure. I always block the film with my hand while it comes out and quickly put it into my sling bag.

Homie almost cracked It in half! I was like “yoooo!!” Haha. Glad you’re having fun with It, I love mine. I have the Mint Flash Bar and it’s great. Definitely recommend. Also, while they develop, face them down.

I learned a couple years that Dr Land was my cousin! His dad, Harry, sponsored my grandfather to come to America.

Great video. Very informative. I have a Sx70 Sonar with flash that my Aunt gave to me. She worked for Polaroid as a demonstrator and went all around New England to present them. She worked directly with Dr Land and Marriet Hartley, the lady in the commercials. I will definitely keep Brooklyn film Company in mind for repairs and tune ups. Thanks for that. Btw your boy with the tats is smoking hott!🌺

5/11/23 Your sx70 is one of the better models we had one at work to take pics, some of the latter SX70s were plastic on the parts, it is amazing that they still sell for good prices with the film is so expensive and hard to find. The neat part of the film pack is that it also contains a battery along with the film to run the camera. For me, the pics were slightly soft. Polaroid had an earlier model 80 folding camera ( Speed graphic styling) also well made the film was set up differently and was B/W and required to manually pull the film from the camera and then coating the finished photo to prevent the image from fading, the images were a lot sharper than the SX 70 and camera used a flash attachment with flash bulbs. The film I think is no longer available after Polaroid 80 came out in the 70s with easier-to-use film packs for the consumers' level cameras.

I have one of these first generation ones as well, but the film door was broken when I got it. Definitely DON'T hold it by the door when unfolding! The little latch that keeps it closed is long and thin, so it doesnt take much to break it, and the only way to get a replacement is to rob one from another SX-70.

I have two of them my friend gave me for free. They were his dad's back in the day. One of them doesn't work. The other works but gets stuck sometimes. I get about 6 out of 8 good pictures out of the pack. Maybe I'll send them into be repaired someday.

Originally that sidebar was supposed to lock itself when you open the camera. Now that the cameras are a lot older it doesn't always work. It works on two of mine. The sonar autofocus SX-70 would be a better option for handing the camera to someone else to take a picture who's not really familiar with manual focus Polaroids. In either case the viewfinder does take some getting used to. The Instax camera is Loosely based on the old Kodak design it's just a lot smaller.

I sent my SX-70 to them twice already. They put a pretty new skin on it but the camera still is inoperable. So i’d be weary before spending the money. Especially because they send a slip clarifying everything is “functioning” when it clearly wasn’t.

You can either send it to a specialist, or try it yourself. I always try first, and if I find I can't do the repair, I defer to someone else.
