AESTHETE - film & music by Søren L. Schirmer featuring Hilke Mayers

The idea was to make the lively relaxed atmosphere of a painter while painting tangible for others with the help of film, scenery and music. Working with an artist, refeeling and capturing the inspired spirit was a special experience. With this post I want to share some ideas and tools we used to portray this unique atmosphere.

The most obvious symbol we used to build a bridge between the creative thoughts and the final painting were the artist's hands, making ideas a reality with surgical precision.
The underexposed black and white footage helped creating images that are hard to indetify - some things remain in the dark - and to add a surreal feeling.

The film grain and the vintage felt piano used for the music give the whole a feeling of reality , through their texture.

Creating an improvised score might be akin to the perfect imperfections that happen wjile painting, which is one of the reasons I chose this writing method.
