Our college is following md raisinghania book and there we take multipliers and the steps are very complicated.. I'm not sure which one to follow

Sir, I think you have wrong integration on equation (ii).
How can the integration of 1/x-y w.r.t. x be done since y is not a constant. It should be the integration of 1/x-y w.r.t. x-y, then the answer comes out to be log(x-y). Same on the R.H.S. side
