I love this song- my grandma used to sing it and the last time I saw her I played the original for her out of what must have been an ipod at the time. So it has a certainly has a hint of sadness for me.

I often wonder though if in Paris when this is heard people react like hearing Stairway to Heaven in the US. Like Oy not this again. I never get tired of it though.

Lovely. I can easily imagine hearing that performance on an old radio show from the 40s. Another beautiful French song in that same style is 'Louise' the 1929 song made famous by Maurice Chevalier.
