I am so very proud of our triathlete, Deirdre Rivera-Martin. Today she completed her first official timed sprint triathlon, Playtri Festival Triathlon, after a five year absence.

Some of you know, but many of you don't, that five years ago she suffered a hip injury during a Danskin Triathlon Series event in Wisconsin. Dee finished the course, but in excruciating pain which sent her to the medic tent. Needless to say the years to follow have been an odyssey.

You will need to ask Deirdre for the stories of diagnosis, misdiagnosis, steroid shots, rehab, therapists, assessments, examinations, and then finally surgery at Baylor Orthopedic here in Texas. Last year, she was ready to return to a sport she so loves only to have Mother Nature cancel the Iron Girl triathlon with ominous thunderstorms.

HALF A DECADE of determination to return to this point. So for me, today is a pretty big deal. Congratulations Dee and your grand return; And thanks to the dozens of friends, family, trainers, physicians, and specialists that cheered her all along the way...
