Exactly, it definitely matters especially with your XLR Mic cable. I switched out my Mogami cable for a cheaper cable and heard the difference instantly!

Yeah like a lot of gear. It matters that you're not buying super cheap crap that can cause issues, but for the most part you'll be fine with anything that's above the threshold of "good".

Depends on if you are using digital equipment. Such as speakers. If you are sending digital info around, it either works or it fails. And you'll know.

Extra cheap will affect the connections negatively. Even if you just focus on build quality.

I'm good with my monoprice xlr cables. I don't run anything more than 10 feet and I'm lucky to have good electrical wiring in my house.

Greetings. I spent last year diving in to this. After spending money on a few dozen mid priced cables I’d agree they do make a world of difference versus cheaper options. I learned this most clearly connecting HS8s to a Soundcraft console; put best you got there . I tried using cheaper cables there and the noise floor was so prevalent. Mogami was most suitable for the task. Wondering if XLR are best versus TRS? Thanks

One of my cheap eBay cables broke. No worries, I paid that bit extra for the type I'm used to where the ends are metal and come apart in two halves instead of the molded plastic ends. The core was around 5 hair thin metal threads! Absolutely pathetic, even for $12 or something for 2 metres! I soldered it up, but it's a 'desperation only' spare.
Looks legit from the outside though.

I think if one wants reliability, one does have to pay a bit more money,
- I tend to go for the "medium" priced leads.

A lot of my cables are around 30yrs old, mostly Sommer, all using whatever Neutrik connectors, never had any fail, all still look pretty new.

My Klotz patchbay cables or probably about the same age too, no problems there either.

Recently I've been using some Van Damme, with Neutrik, and that feels like it will also have a good long life as well.

When I first started off, around 1985, I did budget myself regarding all the secondary stuff like cables, headphones, - yeah, I thought headphones were secondary, - and the like,
- but all I was really doing was throwing money away.

I think, personally, if one is serious, or even like me, just a serious hobbyist, it really does pay in the long run not to budget one's self.

But I'm just another idiot in the crowd, but an idiot who's old enough to remember, and appreciate, the concept of,
- Long term investment...

- love to ALL, feel no hate
