Ravel: Ma Mère l'Oye - Lucas & Arthur Jussen

After a period of 111 days without concerts due to the Coronavirus in the Concertgebouw, Lucas (27) & Arthur (23) Jussen were the first ones to play an official concert in this beautiful hall. This memorable recording was made possible by the Bankgiroloterij series in cooperation with the Tanglewood Music Festival. In this video the Jussen brothers perform Ravels Ma Mère l'Oye.

Lucas and Arthur, you two are my favorite pianists, on my favorite pianos. I am sorry that the Covid virus has stopped your live performances. I saw the distress you have been in because of the absence of live audiences. However I hope you know how powerful these bare stage performance videos are. This is bliss, Lucas and Arthur. I still think the original duet piano as Ravel first wrote it has a simple, innocent fragility that his later orchestration and ballet never quite find. Bravo. Impressionistic Ravel at his best. Bravo for your seamless interpretation. Heck, you're so tuned in to each other. Good to see you back.
