The Best Barn Find Classic Car I've ever discovered. Will it run?
In this episode Jonny Smith pinches himself when he finds what could be the ultimate unicorn classic car, worth up to £300,000. This is a 1959 Aston Martin DB4 that hasn't been started up since 1982 at the earliest, and has been 'abandoned' gathering dust ever since. But why the rotten bumper? Why the tow bar? Who was the famous owner? All is explained in this special episode.

Thanks for stopping by The Late Brake Show.

Anybody else get goose pimples when that engine started? I’m not sure how TLBS is going to top this one. Magnificent car and a great history. It would be great to see this Aston returned to its former glory?! Can’t believe it was used to reverse a boat into the water! Mind boggles. 😳🤯

I have no doubt that the owner Paddy could have got it up and running entirely independently, but he chose to share it with The Late Brake Show and us. So my thanks and gratitude go to Paddy for inviting us in for a glimpse of this rare car, and to the LBS team for doing what they do.

Paddy is a legend! This fella alone (never mind his cars!) deserves a full feature! Johnny sort something out..3 hour interview, his own channel, regular guest, this bloke is gold!

Paddy has to be one of the most interesting people you've encountered on your barn find travels, would love to see you sit him down in the old leather chairs to hear more of his story.

Inspired me to get my, even older, DB MK III going. It's all original and my dad bought it new in 1957, drove it a little and mostly parked it. I fell in love with it, I think before I could walk, and played with it, studied it, and tinkered with it throughout the 70's and 80's. Drove it to high school once, drove it regularly for a while in the mid-80's. It's in the queue for restoration after stripping the trim for painting. No corrosion and all there... Think I'll get started again...

Paddy is my stepdad and I had the pleasure of growing up with him - I wouldn't ever advise wiping any dust off his cars, I'm still in trouble for it

Again a perfect example of why these barnfinds will never, ever get old! Each has it's own unique back story and this one is as brilliant as all the others! Jonny's natural, relaxed interaction with the owners does the rest. If there were awards for car-enthusiast content on this platform, TLBS would definitely be one of the strongest contenders, I'm absolutely sure!
Thanks heaps and hats off to you guys for shining your ever-so exhilarating light on this corner of the internet! 👌

What a barn find episode. It struck me that Paddy has the knowledge and skill to have started the DB4 anytime he wanted to during the past 20 years.
But then thousands of us would have missed it's re-birth, so thank you Paddy for letting us share the momentous event.

It never ceases to amaze me how many old cars are hidden away in sheds all over the world, but Jonny you've hit some of the best things around, just incredible the cars you bring to U Tube, thanks to Paddy for inviting us along, Rj in Oz

What a car and so good to hear it running. Paddy sounds like a bit of a legend in his own lunch time and so down to earth. Loved the bit where Paddy mentioned getting new fuel to it and you were like, oh...I have that covered, don't you worry. 😏 😂

I’ve been lucky enough to see both cars and meet Paddy. A true gent with a head of knowledge and story’s. I felt like a kid at Christmas going into that barn!

Such an incredible episode! I absolutely adored it. Even in today's world, where our focus is often directed towards increasingly shorter content, it's evident that high-quality material made with love and care will always attract an audience who will watch and derive pleasure from it.

I have so much respect for not only you Jonny, who finds these amazing barn finds, But the owners make this series so good. This guy with his extensive motorsport and engineering background, shows his passion by not only finding, buying and keeping this classic, but also how he wanted to hear it run again.
Each episode Jonny gives me further research for my barn find scale dioramas' I create...
Amazing as always.

In 1997 l bought my first barn find car, a 62 Alfa Giulietta. The car was in a barn, covered and completely intact. When l watched you two prepare to turn the crank to see if it had seized l got the same knot in my stomach on that chilly fall day 25 years ago when we did this with the Alfa. It turned so l was overjoyed for Johnny and Paddy. I still have it with seven other classics, two of them a Dino 308 GT4 and a 58 Corvette were also barn/garage finds. The Dino turned and the Corvette was seized. Congratulations on bringing the DB4 back to life. Such a beautiful car, !

I was gobsmacked to see this. I interviewed Paddy for a business magazine 15 years or more ago. A great talker and quite matter of fact about his achievements. He is the only true polymath I've ever met. As I recall, he has had books published on wildlife as well. He mentioned the DB4 as a project but he had so much else going on that it wasn't top of his 'to do' list.

I was lucky enough to own a DB4 as a young man in the early seventies, a rare interim model just before the 5 was launched, even then I had to have some body work done, the tubular body frame, which the aluminum is crafted around, has padding between the two, this facilitates damp and aluminum corrosion even after just 7/8 years, Restoring the body work on this old girl will take for ever! Wish you all the luck! Great video thanks a lot.

Paddy needs his own series… I could listen to him and his stories for hours…

Τhe Laimos family has been in the shipping business since 1905. Liberty ships were given to a number of Greek ship owners who lost their ships to Germans confiscating them or torpedoed by subs as compensation after WWII. The owner was probably Captain Nikos Laimos who is still alive today at almost 90 years old. His two sons Anton and Fillip continue the family tradition and now they own the ENESEL group of maritime businesses that is worth several billions...

The fact that Paddy so clearly had the accumen and skill to have completed this work himself, and yet chose to share it with, makes me want to buy him a drink. Absolutely spectacular video!
