@Builds & Stuff. Thanks. Both Makitas are very competent drills. And I heard that the XGT is arriving in the US sometime in April. And like Makita, the XGT is shipping its kits with a rapid charger and the fan cools the batteries during charging like the LXT. Dewalt and Milwaukee makes you buy rapid chargers separately and the fans only cool the charger.

Hope you and your family stay safe and well.

Starting to see the XGT kit on Amazon for $430 in USA. The older kit is $290, and the newest 18v impact driver and drill kit are $330.

Why is no one else doing this comparison. Seems like it should be the logical comparison to compare the brand new 40v vs the longest selling 18v and not the clutch-less one that is supposed to be more powerful.

Wouldn't the latest XPH14 Hammer drill be the better comparison since it replaced that one you tested

How about that new 18v Makita hammer drill?

Not that huge of a difference. Is the extra battery weight worth it for these types of tools?

So guess what? The 40v is way thinner than the new 18v XPH14. They are not at all similar. The XGT is lighter too but the battery more than makes up for it. XPH14 with 5ah is better balanced than XGT with 2.5AH, IMHO. I haven’t used the XGT much (just arrived an hour ago), but my initial impression is that the electronic clutch ain’t got nothing on Festool and Bosch. We’ll see though. My initial impressions are almost always wrong.
