Hi Col, with your test piece when you added the extra shims was it totally necessary to redo the dovetail cuts? I.e. As I understand it, if the joint is originally to tight, you add the shims to the pin side to narrow them down so redoing the details seems superfluous? George

A query, if I may, Col: how often do you change the MDF backing board? It would seem a bit much to do it every time, otherwise, you would be replacing the backing board even after doing the test cut before cutting for real. On the other hand, you do want to avoid any blow-out at the back of the cut. Is it more important on the pins than the dovetails, perhaps?
