I've listened to this song every July 1st for the last 9 years. It still kicks ass.

July

So play your dead an all time rhyme
The heats on you& can you stand
The flowers dead, all in your head
You are my wave, you cannot save

July July

We can try to erase the pain it's all time high
And I'll cry to the flag train we ignore that sigh
In the thick of the solid flame i can wash that pain aside
And when dawn would end the same I found the ride of rides

July July July July
You want it, You need it, You steal it, kill just to be there

Now revealed by the hope of a stray
It's a played out scene
Under circles of black you'll say
Is this all I'll see?
As the contrast fades to grey
Solid heat will burn and clean
So the end of the ride is today
Well, I'll fold this hand cause it's ...

July July July July
You want it, you need it, you steal it, kill just to be there

This tune is devastatingly heavy in a way that the likes of my other favorite actual metal bands just can't touch.

Totally agree. Was one of my most overplayed EP's. ever. Then I was simply blown away when that fancy internet thing came along and showed me there was so many other songs like Cactus Jumper and my absolute favorite Positiva. I would most certainly pay to hear them all recorded again.

Fucking awesome band/album/song(s)!!!
I remember that it was kind of looked down upon by the critics at the time. All because it wasn't a million miles away from sounding like John's previous band, Kyuss. QOTSA had already released something too, possibly an EP ("These Aren't The Droids You're Looking For" and/or the "Gamma Ray" 7" ??? ) and QOTSA were basically the darlings of the rock press at the time (Kerrang! for sure!) and everyone noted that they were on their way UP! =O)
Oh fun daze! I loved (and still do) going up to Camden to check out the gigs, I always thought the Camden venues were among the best. The Underworld is definitely my favourite venue for sure. Big enough to be the 'gateway' to bigger venues (a 'gateway' for the bands who were the latest 'Hot Stuff') but it was also still small enough to feel initmate.
Late '97 and all through '98 until around a decade later to 2007. I went around to all these gigs and much more!
Fu Manchu's first London gig at The Kings Cross Splash Club/Water Rats (with Kerbdog and Fireside supporting).
Electric Wizard, Goatsnake (with Scott Reeder filling in on bass), & Hangnail at Camden Barfly.
Cathedral, Orange Goblin & Terra Firma at the Camden Underworld.
Cathedral, Anathema & Electric Wizard, this time at the London Astoria 2 (LA2) - RIP! :'O(
So much fucking history at the Astoria 1 & 2 - and they fucking tear it down for millionaire's apartments, chic shops, and a huge crossrail network station. I remember Ken Livingstone saying that the venue(s) would be replaced. I got the impression it would be a purpose-built venue, but in the end NOTHING got replaced! Though a couple of venues WERE refurbished and re-opened ie The Troxy (shit venue), Wembley Arena (got refurbished) as well as a few others I can't recall the names of. Basically, totally inadequate solutions... Others closed too, The Lexington went... anyway...what else did I see...
QOTSA quite a few times at Highbury Garage and The Camden Underworld.
Earthlings? with Baby Zizanie (Jim Thirwell of Foetus!) and FarFlung at Camden Dingwalls (looks like most of the gigs were pretty much in Camden venues! Apart from The Highbury Garage of course)... And in the middle of it all - ME! Selling skunk and hash to them all (well, the majority of them anyway! Ecstasy was definitely big back then, and definitely the drug of choice for a fun, loud OR mellow(!) evening... But yeah, everyone loved their pills and skunk!
;O) =OD

Man, such memories... and such a shame I couldn't make it to the Slo Burn gig. Though for me I cannot stand the Electric Ballroom, when it's packed it's like sardines! Not a lot of room to move. Fairly easy to sneak in round the back through the dressing room though. I bumped into Mudhoney and J.Mascis (who was reviewing the Mudhoney show for some magazine - I didn't see that guy crack a smile once! A very quiet man, quiet to the point of irritation(! LOL!) because you can be sitting with him in a dressing room just the two of you and he won't say a word AT ALL. He'll look everywhere but towards you! =D LOL! Mike Watt on the other hand was awesome, very very friendly, and very very stoned when I met him he was smoking a cigar, at the same time, he had another cigar in his other hand - except that cigar was a fat blunt of a joint! =O)

Anyway, sorry to ramble on! Was just reminiscing of old fun daze, past glories and drunk n drugged debauchery! *sigh*

Earth. 2022. The month is July. I have traveled from the Corina nebula and have found these dancing humans all over the planet. What kind of sickness is this? No response from the indigenous, just continuous DANCING!

I'd love for John to reproduce these songs. These are some of his best songs, but would be so much better with better recording quality. But it's a fixture in time, part of my youth that I loved. So maybe it's best the way it is. One of the greatest bands I've ever heard that ended almost before it started. These are great songs.
