My review for the new JBL L82 classic speakers. A speaker that anyone can dig, enjoy and get down with. These play music with musicality vs analytical dissection.

I agree with everything you say. I have had ProAc, Klipsch, B&W and alot of other speakers the last 30 years. I stop here, beacause I finally found a speaker that plays jazz, classical and rock. Together with my McIntosh MA252 with Genalex Gold Lion tubes….it’s magic. My hunt is over. I have orange grills as well. Thank you for always delivering informative and tone downed intimate reviews👍 Greetings from Norway😊

Thanks for this review. Beeing a professional musician and sound engineer, growing up in a family of professional musicians, the majority of what I see and hear out of the audiophile camp, at least to me seems to be hilarious and completely out of touch with the essence of music. So this review really spoke to me. A speaker is an instrument after all. It's there to convert "technical stuff" into music again, to transmit the vibes created by the musicians, the emotions, to bundle and project whatever happened in front of the mics. And it's ok if they favour the music. Just like you said. Again, thanks for your work, stay safe mate!

I still have an old pair of JBL LX44 (1990) that are quite similar to the L82's. So much enjoyment from them. I hear the L82's last basically forever now, whereas mine need some work. Maybe L82's are in my future.

I'm looking for a speaker to pair with my vintage Yamaha CR-2040 receiver. It's never leaving, so I want a speaker that will stay with it. This seems to fit the bill. Great review!!

I'm planning on getting into Vinyl been looking at the white gloss Pro-ject X1, and these speakers sound and design especially with the orange grills will look and hopefully sound great together

How about driving the JBL's with a vintage Yamaha integrated amp, say a CA-1000?

Cool to see you do hifi now 😀 I used to follow you because of the photo reviews. Now I’m not so much into photography anymore and I meet you again, nice!

Wondering if anyone's heard the smaller L52 Classic? I'm interested in both.

Does the bass reflex tube have to look outwards or does the tweeter have to look outwards?

JBL specs state 8ohm 88db, why do you say not so easy to drive? Should be able to drive these with a decent tube amp.

Your audio reviews are excellent. We share hobbies. HIFI and cameras even though audio is a much more expensive hobby. Just added these ones to my "B" system list.

Interesting you kept the JBLs. In my perception, you were much more enthusiastic about the Heresy's.

Thanks for the great review. I am trying to decide between these and the 100's. These sound like they might be a better fit as my room is 12 x 20. My only concern is that every once in a while I really like to turn up my music to a dangerously loud level for a song or 2. Do these deliver at loud volumes?

Hi, does anyone know, the sound is similar to the JBL NORTHRIDGE E 50, they are more or less the same size

I love just listening to music also. This is a awesome speaker! Brings back memories from my fathers old B&W's from the 70's. If looking for something with this presentation but a more reasonable price check out the Tekton Lore. The Lore make music just sexy and not analytical. Makes you just feel it with passion.

Very well explained and accurate for that matter!🤔😬😉😇 Have you ever heard the JBL Studio 5 series line? I suppose the 530's would be the closest match! That's the line I have with 590 towers upfront. But you're comparing bookshelves so that's why I mentioned the 530's. It's a compression horn loaded driver so it's a little different but they are fantastic!😬 I also have 2 JBL 520p 10 inch sealed Subs that sound Fantastic for their price point. My systems both a home theater and 2 channel unlike yours which seems to be more 2 channel but you get the point.😇

Thanks for the review. I have been on a quest for "musical speakers".for the same size room that you have. Did you listen to the Wharfendale Lintons? ($1500 w/stands) Both are on my short list.

How about experimenting with mixed set?
I use warm left channel proac Response d2 for heft and right the famously neutral (closer to boundary) Kef Reference 201/2 gives me better than either, slightly less etched than Kef alone but still 3d with diffusion and heft.

Would these be good good death metal? Or the heresy? Death metal is my fave genre but also listen to a lot of ambient, smooth jazz, and indie pop. Trying to put together of a short list of speaker to audition.
