I was setting with Lee the night this song hit at #14 on the charts. We were eating pizza in the food court of the Tropicana Hotel. He and Priscilla Dea sang in the Atrium Lounge at the Tropicana Hotel. I watched him sing night after night. He was a good friend in 1982. I also worked at the Tropicana Hotel. I always thought he wrote that song for me, but no. I was in a loveless marriage at the time. Later that year l met the love of my life at the Tropicana. We were married in 1984 and have been married for 40 yrs. Thank you Lee for helping me see the light. Love you always.

This was my mom's favorite Lee Greenwood song! And yes, she was a straight heartbreaker. ❤ I miss her.

The way this song is written is so gut-wrenching; it builds and builds and builds, with Lee's voice hitting every higher note just as it should be hit. Damn, but it stays with you. Or, with me, anyway. Just one more thing; I'm 69 years old, so I remember when I first heard this song on my local country station back in the 80s, and on that day, a line from this song baffled me, and it still does to this day. The line? "All those broken promises I somehow failed to keep." When I heard that line for the first time, I though, wait, there's something wrong with that sentiment, and seconds later, I realized that I WOULD WANT MY LOVED ONE TO FAIL TO KEEP BROKEN PROMISES. If someone FAILS to keep a broken promise, then that means that the spoken promise was KEPT. Because I love this song so much, when I hear it now, I insert "spoken" for "broken." One more thing: Jamey Johnson sang this song in a Lee Greenwood tribute, and, bless my melting heart, that fine man with his gorgeous guns just NAILED this song.

I hadn't heard this song in many years. This morning on car radio they played it. It brought back lots of memories. When I got home I down loaded it. I'm married again now to a beautiful man. He reminds me everyday how much he loves me. To all of you I pray that you will experience true love. There's someone looking for you and wanting the love that only you can give.

Sometimes a woman just has to leave. I lived this song, Christians told me I was wrong. Some only see one side of the story. Think about it where was he while she was home alone crying. My ex was in the arms of other women. So to all of you that don't like this song you better treat your spouse right or she will find someone else who will. I did 25 years with the man who knows how to treat me right.

Yes, and enough women that marry men, we love could see how they’re gonna end up treating us we never would marry him. I wouldn’t have married my husband because he was sweet and polite till after we got married when he started hitting and being abusive, this song means a lot to me and it makes me cry if we could just foresee things sometimes we’d be better. Thank you for sharing this.😢😢😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊

being lonely can be the saddest time of your life. Your partner cant see what he is doing to you mentally and physically.

One of the best concerts I have ever been to. He has that wonderful raspy voice, the perfect amount of that beautiful, vibrato & he will use falsetto so gently on songs ^ then he has the ability to make you feel what he is singing & boy howdy does he ever entertain when performing live! I have been a huge fan since day 1 of hearing him sing. This is one of his best, but I can't think of any that even come close to being bad. It Turns Me Inside Out literally turns me inside out, he puts so much emotion into it! Going, Going, Gone, IOU, I Don't Mind The Thorns If You're The Rose, Hopelessly Yours, of course, God Bless The USA & the list goes on. In case you can't tell, I love me some Lee Greenwood!

An awesome song. Reminds me of my first marriage. I had so much time on my hands😢. Reba sings Somebody should leave, which I also can relate to also in my first marriage ❤️❤️
