'Godly Sorrow Worketh Repentance to Salvation' 2 Corinthians 7:10 Explained

In this video, we examine a passage that is often cited to teach that salvation requires sorrow for sin and turning from transgressions. 2 Corinthians 7:10 says, "For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death." I pray this commentary provides clarity and dispels any confusion concerning this subject. God bless! -OD

The only way is to believe in Jesus for everlasting life and that it's irrevocable John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-9. Thanks again for the message as always. God Bless. Great ministry.

Spot on explanation of this passage. This passage is often used to place a requirement of emotional work in the form of “godly sorrow” for one’s sins in order to obtain salvation.

Amen 🙏 brother in Christ ✝️ God bless

Born again brethren’s in Christ like us should repent of our sins or we are chastised by God but it is NOT repent of sin to have Salvation (Eternal Life)

We also have to distinguish between Godly sorrow and mortal sorrow as Paul rightly mentions.

Godly sorrow comes from God, it is a working of the Holy Spirit i.e. conviction of sin.

When the Holy Spirit convicts a person and shows them their sin, He points that person toward Christ crucified, buried and resurrected.

Thank you for explaining this so clearly! It’s becoming apparent to me that not every verse in the Bible that mentions salvation is about being saved from hell.

I always think that this verse from Corinthians i read makes me think that i have sin against a Holy God who is going to judge me one day and going to hold me accountable of what i did on earth and this the reason why i experience Godly Sorrow because of knowing how Holy and Just and merciful and loving God is by sending his son Jesus to die for my sin so i can reconcile back to him.

Amen brother. It is so rare to hear this passage taught through the lenses of the gospel and properly show it's about salvation from chastening not from Hell. God bless

For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter. 2 Cor. 7:11

The "matter" being discussed is the same matter which was originally brought up in 1 Cor. 5 with the adulterer who had slept with his fathers wife. This is also brought up in 2 Cor. 2.

Wow! I just read this verse about 3 days ago and was curious what you’d say about it!

My thoughts were pretty close to what you stated. I think Paul was mainly addressing their response to his letters about their behaviors. They accepted his criticism with repentant hearts and he was pleased about this outcome.
