Fantastic, gritty and colourful and relishing in polish and freedom and joy, what a marvellous conductor and orchestra, the best Schubert symphony number 2 I think along with Sir Sir Thomas Beecham. Amazing conducting and orchestral playing.

Splendid performance. Maazel was not very good when it came to the deep, emotional music, but he was a technical perfectionist, so in delightful melodic music like this, he really made it sing. I almost pitied the violinists for the unceasing speed with which they had to perform in the first movement. Loved it.

Takes the first movement at a very fast clip but it totally works, the orchestra can handle it. Usually don't like overly quick tempos but in this case it seems to be what the piece asks for. Well done
