How We Practice for Day 1 Raids & Contest Mode

This is the best way to practice for contest mode and day 1 raid clears in destiny 2. This is the best Master Raid and end game content to play in destiny 2. This is how to get a day 1 clear and prepare for the lightfall raid race.

I'd love to see some 2023 lowman guides with roles/builds for each encounter and each class.

I've placed top 10 in the last 2 raids. This video covers everything we do and more. Great advice 👍

For myself and several of my Day-1 team members, part of our practice for Day-1 Raid's Contest Mode is doing numerous Grandmaster Nightfalls throughout the seasons (especially the season before a new expansion or Day-1 raid drops) - the GMs difficulty and Power difference/capping does a fairly decent job at mimicking the Day-1's Contest Mode, teaches you a lot about survivability and staying alive when under-Power.

If you want to personally improve, I'd recommend taking a low survivability build into a solo dungeon at -10. Something like Young Ahamkara hunter where the most survivability you can get is through something like well of life or heal thyself. I'd also recommend looking at other raids in which you have to figure out encounters in other games, just to kinda figure out how game designers convey implied instructions. Bungie tells us how all the mechanics work every single time. The best teams are the ones that can translate those instructions quickly.

If you ever find yourself stuck on DPS and exhausted typical plug and play damage buff/debuff combos, put your trust in Lumina. As long as Bungie doesn't kill Blessing of the Sky in anyway going forward, it is still a super crucial buff to apply to people during DPS that can push you to where you need whenever you are stuck on DPS phases where you come up short and don't get the kill on final DPS chance/ENRAGE. Even among some of the best people playing this game, people sleep on it and when you get in the groove of an encounter that needs you going crazy, you can probably find an opportunity for somebody to make their primary weapon Lumina or at the very least able to hot swap to it before DPS and get the Noble Rounds made up(especially easy with Assembler Boot Warlock).

The only time I would say *not* to worry about it is if you're in a scenario where everyone is going to be exhausting all special and power ammo and turning to primary DPS/an Outbreak Perfected x6 moment and you're going to be in a bit of a rough spot with Lumina dps.

I do feel like a master raid 20 under is significantly harder than day 1 due to the champions, more shields, match game, and no radar.

Is all of our gear getting raised to the same level like Witch Queen? Maybe 1590 or 1600?

So question. Boss levels recommended light is higher than say 1780. Does that apply in contest mode under more than 20 light under. Or will the recommended light be say 1820 and caps you at 1800

All of this is great but at the end of the day I’d say first step is finding a team to run the content with because personal improvement isn’t enough you gotta have 5 others who think the same too which can be hard for some people to find that team.

Most players who do a day 1 are very competent already at killing and surviving. The key differentiator will be mechanics - figuring them out, but not only that, figuring them out while under heavy fire and a lot of stress. I'm not sure how many teams have actual think-tanks sitting at home, brainstorming mechanic solves, but I would hope any team wanting to challenge for the number one slot. As for the practice itself, it might be wise to simply not do easy content for the last couple of weeks, or at least do as little of that as possible. If you do easy content, you get lazy very quickly and start phoning it in. If you get used to the tough activiites and only do those, it doesn't come like a shock on day 1.

Does the power level of the weapon itself make a difference? I thought it was just a contribution towards your overall light level, and THAT was what determines your damage.

all this when bungie could make contest mode permanently an option and let people practice in exactly the same environment they'll be in on day 1

Man I just want to get a day 1 completed I’ve got 4 people including myself all we do is gm’s raids master raids and dungeons and flawless raids but we always have 2 spots open when a day 1 comes out and those 2 spots always get filled by 2 people from our clan that struggle even in the easiest content. Wish there was a spot to find a couple people that are actually competent cuz In my experience using shit like lfg anytime you find someone even that seems like they’re decent they’re usually an asshole and just toxic as hell or you’ll get people that are chill but horrible at the game there’s no in between
