This ART/new york program looks at the art world’s most recent enfant terrible, Jeff Koons. Koons’ polished poly-chromed wood and porcelain figurines draw on our popular culture and “kitschy” imagery in order to confound, confuse and ultimately seduce the general populace as well as the intellectual art world. Views of Koons’ controversial 1989 exhibition at the Sonnabend Gallery in New York City are inter-cut with an extended interview with the artist, who declares that “True liberation for the artist is outside the art world – – that’s where one truly can be free and creative.”
