Genesis Electrified G80: An EV that looks like a normal car!

MotoMan drives another @GenesisUSA G80! This time, the Genesis G80 Electrified. A Genesis G80 that is completely electric by taking some of the bits from the Genesis GV60 but also using some EV components exclusive to this Genesis G80 EV. After a drive in MotoCanyon, he learns there is something very different and simultaneoulsly familiar about this Genesis G80.

I have two ev’s and the charging port in the front is helpful as my l2 charger is installed on the front wall in my garage. The location in the front is perfect

The benefit of that charge port seems pretty obvious: it woukd let you pull straight into any charging spot and be confident that the cable woukd reach. Actually seems like everyone else does it wrong

Hi MotoMan, didn’t we expect that as Genesis progressed more towards Lexus levels they were going to get more expensive? 3 years ago Genesis was a helluva bargain for what you received. Today they are even better but now are going to make you and I pay more the experience.

I agree with you. I do like this cars exterior because it doesn’t look like a bubble car or something from The Jetsons.

Good point you mentioned at the beginning, why other EV must look like electric microwaves, or very similar.

Similar price increase the GV70é has over its ICE equivalent. Great review that is spot on. 💯🎯 It’ll be nice when they package this on an EGMP rev 2 base that advantages the center of the console for batteries. 14:25

I like the idea of a front charging port if I pulled into my driveway, I have to have the car parked in a specific spot to reach the charge port. A front Charge port would allow me to pull into either space in my driveway

On the sunroof, it may also be that the euro spec editions have a built in solar panel the encompasses the entire roof. Not sure why not hereb in the U.S. (possibly DOT restrictions?). We'll know more in the coming months.

My son ownes a Tesla Model Y and in his situation, a front charging port would make home charging much easier since the level 2 charging point is mounted to the garage wall seperating the living space from the garage. (Like most homes/townhouses) It was a cleaner and less costly installation since the Main panel is never at the garage door/entrance end.

I don't have an EV but it seems that charging stations are designed for front-in parking and use. With a rear charge port, either I hope that the cable reaches far enough or I have to back in.

Charge port should be put in area least likely to be impacted from a minor collision. Front or rear would not be my first choice. Agree with the pricing being too high.

I prefer this over an i4 or the mythical creature named Base Taycan. My problem with G80e is the trunk space.

The front charging port allows me to charge in a narrow garage. Like it in the front.

I can see Genesis becoming full EV. Agreed that price is too close to the Tesla model S and other performance EVs.

They’re not gonna sell, in that price range. People will go to BMW and get the best sunroof experience possible plus, 20 inch 21 inch wheels and you get the performance as well.
