For this video, we travel back to December 1991. On the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation, John Denver and his guests visit and sing with the Gros Ventres and Assiniboine Indian Nations. Guests on this presentation included Patty Loveless, Clint Black, Jim Horn and Kathy Mattea. On this song, Kathy Mattea sings while Jim Horn renders a touching recorder solo, accompanied by other musicians, inside a barn with farm animals.
The Christ Child Lullaby is a Scottish Gaelic Christmas Carol traditionally sung at Midnight Mass in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. The lyrics to the song were written by Fr. Ranald Rankin in late 1855, and first appeared in publication in an 1893 Gaelic Catholic hymnal edited by Fr. Allan MacDonald.
During his illustrious career, John Denver released quite a bit of Christmas music, with some even being released posthumously. Kathy Mattea released a Christmas album in September 1993, entitled "Good News." The project included this song. In October of 1995, Clint Black released his first collection of Christmas music, "Looking for Christmas," which included a tune he sang on this TV special. He has since released two other albums of Christmas music. Patty Loveless released an album of Christmas songs in 2002, which was entitled, Bluegrass & White Snow." May of 2013 saw the release of a Christmas album by Jim Horn, which was called "Christmas with Jim Horn."
