I am Brazilian, and when I served the army I spent one year in the Amazon rainforest near Colombia and Venezuela. Lots of places with interesting stories about ancient peoples, lots of stones carved in the middle of nowhere… Not once I heard about academics of archeologists going there… My post was near a comunity that had contact with the west only for 80 years… It had an incredible aurea of magic

I love that he isn’t trying to beat his ideas into us. He acknowledges how little is actually known as opposed to what scholars claim we know. There are so many questions unanswered and so many people that want to get paid for having the answers they race to put out a theory and claim it as fact.

" I think religion in South America began in the Amazon" is actually what the man said.

That is a much different thing than religion as a whole originating in the Amazon.

I wonder if the ingestion of psychedelic plants in the amazon was in some way responsible for these religions forming. Ayuhuasca for example

Mysterious cities of Gold. Please search and watch this 80's cartoon series. It's got 2 season, 45 or so episodes. Everything in this interview is it this series. I would love to know if Ed Barnhart has seen it, and his opinion. Obviously it's a cartoon, but super well researched for the time. It's 40 years old👍👌🇦🇺

Interesting that some of the Hindu gods have snakes about the head. Maybe the Meso American god's snakes APPEAR to come OUT OF his head because it's represented as only 2 dimensional. The Hindus were into 3 dimensional statues later on and the snakes (Naga ?) seem to extend from the back of the diety...
Snakes...i recall one story the Native Americans have regarding snake beings interacting with the humans...

He talks about gods who are both wonderful and terrible at 12:00. Sounds a lot like the Old Testament god.

Evidence of religion, via ritual burials, is something like 100.000 years old. Not sure what this guy is talking about 1800 bc for.

I understand why people in antiquity were religious…. I have absolutely no idea why modern people in the information age still pretend to be
