Wow Vanilla: Grind or Quest starting zone

In this Wow Vanilla video I test out Grinding vs Questing through the starting zone and is faster based on my own experience

I just wanted to say guys that I really appreciate the response this video has gotten. I'm thrilled that people are finding this information useful. I did another experiment that looked at Questing V Questing + Mob farming between Quest point A and B. I highly recommend people who watch this check that video out as well. I think I presented the statistics better.

Something to keep in mind is that unless you have a main character to fund this grinding alt play style that some form of questing will be required simply to keep your gear up to date or eventually your kill speed will drop to the point that it simply stops being beneficial. Another tactic is to do dungeon runs in between grind sessions to get some of the best gear for a low level toon. This comes from a person who has extensive experience leveling alts in the original vanilla WoW. I did that for over 2 years before BC came out and used many different methods for leveling.

well on nostalrious it took me 2.5 hours to get out of the undead starting area questing because there is easy 100 or more people there and has been since relaunch

I misread the purpose of this video. I thought it was a critique on Vannila WoW leveling (which involved a lot of grinding) compared with Current WoW (where quests have been streamlined) Still it was an interesting video to watch

The starting area is not a great way to make this comparison though. In the starting area, there are plenty of quests abound. Well known quests that you'll have no trouble doing. After this, quests get a lot lower density and mobs a lot higher.
The main value of grinding is that its very consistent. You should never die first of all, because you would be killing mobs that are intentionally easier to kill.
But the main reason its even better than you see here is because on Elysium we will have the dynamic respawns. When I was grinding on Nostalrius's early days, mobs were respawning so fast it would be only about 4 kills before the 5th would respawn.
This is something that needs to be considered for a realm that is surely to have all quest mobs camped heavily.

I usually grind 1-40 doing less than 5 quests max. At that point, once you get the mount, questing becomes more worthwhile. After around 44 the zones start getting more and more quality quests with better rewards.
But up until that point, you just grind and use the extra money you make to buy BOEs.

I'd like to play on Nost soon. Not because I have a deep love for Vanilla or anything, but just because a lot of the content of the game is in the levelling process, instead of a continent a hundred levels away.

So basically if you're leveling an alt and have a main to give them gear then grind > quest.

the only thing with this, on nost release itll be impossible to quest, all the questing mobs will 100% chance to be camped, grinding in diff areas would be the best to start out imo

I would advise not picking up any lucky loot you get when youre trying to do a controlled experiment... if you kept the same sword the whole time you would have much more reliable results
