Either compensator springs gone weak or whole compensator needs replacing. That is what 131HP does lol #Fatbob #Harley

THERE WAS NO ISSSUE WITH COMPENSATOR OR THE LIKE. IT ENDED UP BEING PISTON DROP DUE TO TWISTED CRANK, WORN ROD JOURNALS ECT. WHICH I HAD CRANK TRUE AND WELDED WITH NEW RODS AND BEARINGS ECT DONE.
The noise you can hear is smart arse comments coming from dickheads 😎😂

I prefer the early twin cam compensator and chain tensioner. Secret on drag models I built. Machine tensioner block where only the chain rollers contact it. Chain generally only contacts at decel anyway. My fix for this style compensator. Flog the crap out of it at break in. Babysitting it seems to make them loose for life.

I didn't have comoensator issues until I exchanged the manual primary chain adjuster for auto adjuster, like the on this bike! Then auto adjuster started tightening up an intense bang resulted while starting! I'm switching back too manual adjustment an spending special care in its adjustment!

Hell mine was 10x worse and I rode it from Tennessee to Montana and back and still haven't changed it out yet...that's 4000 miles round trip.

Problem is the chain tensioner keeps adjusting tighter and there's no give so it slowly pulls the cranks inwards ...buy the haynes one

One of my friends bought a 93 softail a year ago, and he is hearing knocking sounds. He told me he was going to junk it. I told him I would take the bike. I haven't seen the bike yet, but he says the battery is dead, but If I get a new battery, it should make it to my house. I've always loved Harleys but never had the chance to own one. I do ride from time to time a honda 599, so I am not new to riding. Since the softail is going to be free, and it will make it to my home. I suspect it might be the compensator. What are your thoughts?

I can't see anything wrong, if the tensioner wasn't on it, it would be slapping.

You can see how much the end of the crank is moving, and how much the compensator is wobbling, that crank is beyond done 🤣 how hot rodded is that thing?!

Why in the hell is Harley Davidson still using a chain primary drive system? With a new Milwaukee 8 motor and the new softail line up and going that chain primary drive has to go replaced by a gear drive primary.
Harley-Davidson can keep the traditional primary cover for its traditional appearance with a modern low maintenance system inside, sooner or later the reality will happen, but to attach low tech to a new motor is bad.

Also swap out the stock chain tensioner for a Baker adjustable tensioner
