You hit this out of the park

Holy crap! I just learned more in 25 minutes than I have last two days researching YouTube for our setup. Great explanations. Sold me on the double pipe. Have just a small run with 90 degree into wall out to chimney. It’s a large open area in our cabin and now I clearly understand the envelope idea and the air pressure I may have to deal with to light. Good stuff. Subscribed.

My winter electricity bill went from 240 per month to 45 per month. I get free wood and split it and sell the excess. Thank you for this video.

What a wonderful job you did explaining this, thank you. We bought a 2-story house with an insert, (Blaze King), in a basement with long, tall chimney, (going up 3 stories), first time tried to light it, your right "disaster", so much cold/negative air pressure, SMOKE-ville city, scary! No other guys selling stoves could explain this to us let alone have/had a clue to help. Lucky for us we had some old timers that explained we had to heat the chimney first with a blow torch and open a basement window. (Say what)? Buying a house and heating explanations with chimneys are essential. This house has, 3 gas stoves, (2 on main floor), and 2 in basement; one gas, one wood, chimneys at both ends of home, North and South. Only one gas stove in basement is efficient and heats! You're my new Hero, appreciate all you share and do. Do you sell up in Spokane and deliver? Best regards, from PacNW.

Great job explaining stove ventilation! Ive been burning wood for 15 years in my house and shop and I just learned why my shop stove has not worked right from day one but it will be fixed this weekend. Dont worry Chris you will catch on.

Great video! I also want to say we have a basement wood stove in a 2 story that works great but there are reasons for that. It has an open stair well from the basement to the second floor as well as a ducted furnace and fresh air exchange that move the air well in hour house. Our chimney goes through the wall, and up the outside of the house above the peak (over 30 feet of rise) and yes it cost more than the stove. We burn about 3 cords a year and it's been an absolute game changer making our basement (which is well insulated) warm and cozy all through the winter. Bottom line is to find a good dealer in your area who knows the weather and conditions you deal with locally and don't cheap out on your chimney.

I have been totally overwhelmed with this whole wood stove install the past few months and feeling totally ill equipped, plus no one really knows what they are doing in the "how to" videos on youtube. This video however, is everything I was looking for and more info that I didn't even KNOW I needed! thorough, easy to understand, the illustration made it SO much easier to understand too! Thank you for taking the time to educate us normal people. who knew wood stoves were so dang complicated!

Heat rises, 1) Put a register in the floor, (cellar ceiling) and 2) If the floor is warm, the room temp can be cooler, but the body stays warm, . In the basement was the best place for us. Also, we put a 4" fresh air return through the basement wall, and ran 4" vent pipe down to about 1 foot above floor level. we also put a register in the basement door, to keep the air flowing (convection) from cool up stairs air, to return to the basement for circulation. Thanks for the video.

Thank you for all of the info, very informative. I have a barndaminium, it's 2 levels and I want to place a wood stove on the first level. No horizontal run. Do you recommend a wood stove on the first level? I have a wood stove on the first level of my home and I really would one in the barn as I am renovating. Should I try this or am I wasting my time and money?

The free standing is the warmest. Like a pot belly stove. They throw out more heat than a fire place. Me i personally think, a fireplace IS THE USLESS OF THEM ALL! My large US wood burning stove IS SWEET. i can even cook on the top of it

Great video. I have a question. I want to build a fireplace for my wood stove to sit inside. How efficient is this? Will I have to get a small fan to push the heat out?
