If there’s such a thing as coincidence I was reading Epictetus last night. He says, “Don’t be puffed up with pride if you are able to provide your needs with very little cost. The first task of the person who wishes to live wisely is to free himself or herself from the confines of self-absorption. Consider how much more frugal the poor are than we, how much better they forebear hardship. If you want to live simply, do it for yourself, do it quietly, and don’t do it to impress others. Live simply for your own sake.”

I used to tell my daughter when we were in a store and she saw something lovely that she wanted that it's great to look at all the these beautiful things, but we don't need to own them. They will still be beautiful sitting there on the shelf and we don't have to worry about storing the stuff or taking care of it. Let someone else have to deal with all that. We can just appreciate the beauty. It worked some of the time! ☺

I realised many years ago that just because something is beautiful doesn't mean I need to own it. I

I'm an extreme minimalist. The opposite of a hoarder. Having too many material possessions gives me stress.

Being addicted to buying things is similar to alcohol/drug addiction or gambling. You get a little buzz everytime you buy something new that doesn't last so you have to buy more stuff over and over to get the buzz again and again.

I’ve been practicing minimalism over a decade now and I’m still impressed with how little I really need and live with. I still remember having excess skincare and bath products and now I literally have empty draws. It’s always a work in progress with clothes (I think it comes with the territory of being a girl) and I’m always thinking of how to pair down. It’s so refreshing! Not only am I not overwhelmed with items and don’t have to dig for anything, I have less to keep up with and I make easier/quicker decisions.

72 and live and work for myself on any beach. Life is good. I’m grateful.

One of my favourite quotes from Diogenes is "It is the privilege of the gods to want nothing, and of godlike men to want little". I used to have this mindset of "wanting/needing more" just in case I need them (when I need them). But then I realised I was just tormenting myself with the idea that I will never have enough. So I attempted to cut through things I don't need slowly. And yeah now I find joy in having little (or enough, in this case).

I've always felt that we live in a world that constantly tells us we don't have enough, and we'll never be enough. It's up to our self-realisation to break away from this cycle I guess.

Minimalism goes hand in hand with doing your best to keep life simple. Keeping it simple on purpose made me so much happier!

It’s ok to own things as we all need food and a place to sleep at night, but not becoming attached to those things is key

I love the comment, "Be light between the ears." My mantra for life.

After my separation i have occasional talks with my ex about my stuff still with her. It reminds me how much things i have acquired and never missed. I just forgot about them. That proves that attachment is temporary and once you don't have them anymore it is not a problem. Also because of a health issue i can't eat many things. You can still live well without meat or wine or beer. I still miss them but eating light is also a blessing. Less is more is a famous one liner. And its true

Backpacking was the experience that taught me that I don't need anything beyond a 50L backpack.
Every vacation has been different since.

I'm smiling right now because when I was playing Skyrim, my very main activities were : exploring, walking, contemplating the landscapes, cutting wood, managing the house, being with "family", chatting with inhabitants. A simple life that had nothing to do with the main quest of the game🤭🙃 I wish I could do yoga also but...

I just went through a home sale and had to scale down to a single bedroom and minimal storage space in a shed. I sold, gave away, recycled and threw away everything else. Much happier.❤️

A major inspiration for me was when one of my professors made a side remark in his lecture about his youth, and having only enough to fill two foot lockers. He had such a smile on his face, that it changed my outlook of having things.

I am doing the same. Going to the mall, looking at things while saying "look at all these things that I do not need."

I don't even own 200 things. On the other hand, I have saved and invested so much money through my lifestyle that I theoretically don't have to work anymore. That's what freedom should feel like.

With the lack of stability due to cost of housing I have learned to not participate in consumerism anymore. I am continuing to get rid of material things.

I own a fold-up table, a chair, bedding, clothes, and a few books. I can move, and do move, when I want, where I want. I am not tied or chained to a home or possessions, and as a result, I live a life rich in experiences.
