Supervised FSD vs True Autonomy - Tesla’s Robotaxi Event

I had the chance to attend Tesla’s ‘We, Robot’ event at Warner Bros. Studios in Los Angeles, where they unveiled the futuristic Cybercab and the retro-inspired Robovan. The event was a spectacle—autonomous Teslas chauffeured guests around the lot, while Optimus humanoid robots bartended and danced. I even had the opportunity to interview Franz von Holzhausen about his designs! But beyond all the excitement, is Tesla truly on the verge of solving autonomy? In this video, I share my first-hand experience riding in Tesla’s driverless cars, break down the key announcements, and offer a critical take on Tesla’s progress, especially in comparison to competitors like Waymo. So, with the hardware designs ready, the question really is, when will Elon finally deliver on his autonomous promise?

Waymo is 100% remote supervised, and they don't report interventions.

By some definitions of "about to"
7 years after the Roadster 2, I don't believe I'll see the Robovan in my province before 2030 if at all and they don't just scrap it for a more sane project

Thank you for your sane take. LMAO when Franz suggested a use case of robovan as a school bus. Clearly never been on a school bus and not understood the drivers have responsibilities for the kids x100 in excess of driving.

You’re a brilliant young man and I think that your take on this event was spot on. I think that many are afraid to speak their mind because people expect to hate you or to love you. Tesla and Elon are extremely polarizing, especially with Elon moving everything to Texas and he’s exclusively supporting one Presidential candidate because he and Tesla were totally snubbed in favor of GM and their CEO who the President said was leading the world’s electrification, Tesla was not mentioned once at the White House.

How long until we get to level 5? In the spring a Model 3 drove me just over 4 miles in a busy suburban Cleveland environment, 6+ turns, cut off a bicyclist (just about to cross the crosswalk while Model 3 was creeping for visibility on a busy 4 lane road), and 1 intervention immediately after.

Light up ahead turned green and my outside lane was open and Model 3 was full steam ahead while the cars on the inside lane were letting a minivan turn left directly in front of me approaching. I had to brake quite late and hard.

waymo, nothing like remote supervision in a GEO map to be considered to be ahead of Tesla... LOL

Tesla is far more advanced because it can work outside the geofence of SF. That being said, even if the software is generally working the regulations that the govt puts on it will restrict it dramatically so it will be caught up in red tape.

The only thing I liked was the design of the robotaxi. Optimus was being puppeteered by humans and it’s clearly not ready to fulfill Musk’s promises and the bus has been done by a billion other companies, nothing new.

You said you could call a Waymo and go pretty much Crap! If you are outside their sand box, they can't even come to pick you up, you need to meet them somewhere IN their sandbox and the same thing if you want to go someplace outside their geo-fenced sandbox. I agree it is requiring more patience4 with Tesla but once they arrive, you won't have those limitations so please be accurate if you are going to put out information.
