Homie made the right choices. He did a boot camp, he made sure his GitHub and LinkedIn was up to snuff, he kept on studying, he applied rigorously, and he went to professional tech meetups in a large city to build himself up a network. He should have also considered volunteering for conferences. This is 100% how you break into tech. Yes, it's hard, but it's a solid formula. I did this for machine learning/data science rather than full-stack dev, but it's the same idea.

Josh, this is great content. I was in the service industry for over 10 years and I've recently obtained my CS degree (waste of time and money, hindsight). This video was a sanity check for me living in the Orange County area of California. Not getting responses back after 10s of applications when I hadn't had trouble getting a job in the service industry prior made me feel like I'm not worthy of such a position. Now I see that everyone goes through the troubles that I am ... and now I have some perspective. For some people, your friend's story could be discouraging -- but it's inspiring to me. Thank you.

Just a note: I think other than corporate cringe I think interviews are your other specialty. You know what questions to ask and you always have the video value packed. Nice job

I have a criminal justice degree and feel like it was a waste. I'm in a full stack program now. So glad this video was made.

That's been my experience as far as entry level job. Most big companies have new grad onboarding programs. Since they are large they have their specific business cases, so they have new engineers trained. Which is something I really appreciate and like about big corporate. Unlike small companies that expect you to know everything right off the bat and pay subpar.

Just a note, only VERY big companies can afford this kind of training and accommodation.

I dont see why most companies doesnt recognize the potential in investing in your employees. Having happy employees gives so much back, they will probably not switch jobs, they will be more productive, it will be easier to hire other people etc.

Gotta say. A lot of your videos are downers. Not because they are inaccurate, but because they are about the same, tired "your employer is going to screw you" tone... this is a huge, inspirational, refreshment. Thanks.

Pretty similar to my background. I was an Army Infantryman for four years, then a Correctional Officer for the state of Florida, now a Front-End Dev.

Half of me wants to dive headfirst into OSCP/other cyber security training, and the other half of me wants to stay in my current roll until I can either become a VFX person, editor, or trucker.

:( I am a current fulltime cybersecurity student and full time server, and I made 43k last year :( I'm only 20, and is sad the a police officer makes only 28k
