Disorder of myocardial repolarization showing prolonged QT interval on EKG → increased risk of polymorphic vtach and torsades de pointes

Etiology:
Congenital: inherited, genetic abnormality
Treamtent: nonselective beta blockers: nadolol, propranolol
Acquired: antiarrhythmic drugs (quinine, sotalol, dofetilide, ibutilide), psychotropic meds (haloperidol, methadone), erythromycin, cisapride, electrolytes (hypoK, hypoMg, hypoCa), eating disorders, CAD, bradyarrhythmias
Withdraw offending etiology

Thankyou for mentioning methadone. Many doctors including cardiologists leave it out or have no clue.
