As excited as I am about this movie about Lynch, I‘d prefer another movie by Lynch.

As a Lynch fan, I hope it's not full of conjecture but instead provides firsthand comments from Lynch himself. Lynch has been inspired by many things, not just Wizard of Oz. From Jean Cocteau's work, Sunset Boulevard, Rear Window, Stanley Kubrick's work, Jacques Tati... even the birth of rock 'n roll.. He's also very much into texture & sound. I hate when people imply that David is some odd person unlike other people. He's certainly unique, but he's also down to earth.

Just watched this and it feels like a collection of films graduates who were given an assignment to make a video essay about David Lynch and his connection to Oz. It's perfectly fine and decently made, but nothing past what you can find on youtube. Truly doesn't feel like something that needed to be distributed by Criterion and Janus Films.

You can link Lynch to all kinds of influences. The photography of William Mortensen, and the Hitchcock Story magazine.( paperback) Very specifically too.
He knows what I'm talking about.

Are all the movies at 1:17-1:22 ones that David Lynch likes and says are his favorites or are they there for no reason? Also when they put in the titles Pinocchio, Cinderella and Peter Pan do they refer to the original Disney versions or do they refer to a different company film adaption of them? Because there is more than one film studio that had made their own versions of those 3.

Lynch is a stylist first and foremost. This isn’t a bad thing. I’m merely stating what’s obvious that people tend to confuse with depth. He isn’t a storyteller necessarily. It’s emotion, and vibe exclusively. Which cinema tends to be the best at doing but I don’t think his films are as layers and or deeper then they seem. It’s all mood. I don’t think figuring out or trying to make sense of his dream like narratives will provide any further illumination.

He does art house riffs on genre staples and does it extremely well.
