Seismic Acquisition Community: Deep Sea Mining

We are happy to share the recording of the first technical talks organized by the EAGE Seismic Acquisition community on 22 November 2021

The event, "Deep Sea Mining; Exploration, Exploitation and Environment" featured the following presentations:

- Deep Sea Mining – An Overview of Recent Developments, by Rudy Helmons (TU Delft, NTNU)

- Exploration Technology for Deep Sea Mining – The High Resolution 3D Seismic Case and the Mohn-22 Collaboration, by. Adriana Citlali Ramirez (TGS)

- Exploitation Technology of Deep Sea Mining, by Wiebe Boomsma (IHC Mining)

- Expected Environmental Impacts of Deep Sea Mining, by Henko de Stigter (NIOZ)

It is expected that the energy transition to renewable energy sources will create a huge increase in the demand for minerals. One way to meet this demand is mining the deep seas. But there are serious concerns regarding the environmental impact of these mining activities off shore. In this webinar, we introduce the topic of Deep Sea Mining and discuss the exploration & exploitation as well as address the environmental concerns.
