Hey Horse Lovers! Today we are going to show you all of the horses who are here at FSE and discuss Equine Behavior and herd dynamics. We will walk around the farm and show you how the horses are acting and responding to each other in order to educate and display equine herd behavior. We will show you the current herd hierarchy as well. It's fun to see the horses just being horses, and each horse has a different personality and place within the herd. Ariel is amazing! Once the scared little foal, she's showing how truly strong and assertive her personality is. I loved watching her refuse to give up the feed bucket! Shae, thanks for the update on Jiminy. He looks really good! The recuperation period feels as if it passed in a flash! I am thrilled to hear he will be re-joining the herd in two weeks. He is the only horse I have ever seen with that ginger-colored mane, and he is gorgeous!
It is really fun to observe the herd dynamics, and especially at feeding time to see the real hierarchy. Of course Lumiere would be the most dominant within the entire herd, but it is so good to see him and Mushu doing so well together in their own paddock. Mushu is Lumiere's 'Little Buddy.' I am not surprised that Gaston is the next in line of dominance, with Lumiere and Jiminy out of the mix. Zasu is the one that surprised me, as I thought he was more mellow, like Arlo. Of course the young fillies, Esmeralda and Ariel, are at the bottom of the totem pole, so to speak, because of their age. It will be interesting to see how the dynamic changes as they both age into maturity. If Belle were with the herd, I am sure she would be very near the top, as she is Queen B.
