I still find it hard to believe that they canceled the amazing show that looked like some sort of anime right when they were getting to the best part, to just put this out... what has our world come too?

Is it me, or does “Thunder cats roar.” Have an uncanny similar ring to “Teen titans go?”

Tbh the only character design that looks monstrously bad the protagonist. If it was a different character drawn with that body type, it wouldn't look as bad, but to me, he always gave the impression of being either buff or agile, not this weird chubby muscle marshmallow. Everyone else looks like a cartoonized version of the original character (a bit too much IMO but not offensively so), but he just looks really weird.

Man, I can remember watching the other Thundercats reboot as a kid. To this day I can still clearly recall Lion-o screaming, "THUNDER. THUNDER. THUNDER CAAAATS, HOOOO!" and waving his sword around. Good times.

On a similar vein though, I can also recall watching another animated movie featuring animal people. It was about this lion servant guy falling in love with a monkey princess (who was blue for some reason) whose kingdom was at war with this other snake princess's kingdom, whose dad enslaved the monkey kingdom or something. Also she had scarab beetles and a little golden maze, and she was also probably into the lion dude. It wasn't in English and I couldn't understand a word, but I'm really nostalgic about it. If anyone knows what the fuck I'm talking about, hit me up.

The main problem with the art style they’re using is that it just doesn’t go at all with the sort of action and story thrundercats had. CN is used to making these shows that are more comedy centered but also with some plot but the problem truly arises when you fully swap out the soul of the show for cheap humor and cutesy art styles that are probably easier to animate but harder to convey any action scenes

I imagine Solar Sands a nerd but like a cool nerd who is so tired of everyone's sheit.

I think the art is cute myself, but I agree that it doesn't fit with Thundercats based on what I've seen of the franchise. If this is gonna be anything like Steven Universe or OK KO, however, I think people should _definitely_ give this a chance. It may look cutsie and watered down, but if it's anything like either of those titles, it won't stay that way for long...

Calarts (and many other art schools tbh) are focussing on creating workers, not artists. They don't teach you how to develop an unique art style, they teach you the easiest and fastest ways to do something. So companies could waste less money into the production of many episodes, with zero experimentation or complex plotlines, and gain way more profit. Quantity > Quality.

It's obvious not every artists that comes out from Calarts it's going to use the "generic modern cartoon style", but it's really apparent that this is a trend on the industry side, and just now people it's getting tired of it. It could be "effective", but there's not much diversity both animation and plot wise, and it's over-used at this point.

And, there's the toy factor.

Thundercats (2001) was cancelled for not selling enough toys (with more other causes). This simple desing would be easier to replicate on 3D. Flat desings -> less production costs and more toys -> profit.

This cripples the possibility to get an original cartoon come to life in the industry, not only for the -pacts- contracts with their "small letters", but something with an history and nostalgic fans behind it will be more attractive to the businessmen rather than something entirely new, even if it has potential.

*TL; DR*
It's more of a "Industry style", Calarts is just adapting to it. Animation industry is focusing on selling toys rather than creating original cartoons.

I have seen the original for 3~ episodes when I was younger, but even I know this doesn't look correct and is just because of the low budget needed to make profit. However I do love Popee the Performer, which has shitty animation, but it might be good.

Edit: You should actually check out Popee the Performer, it's 26 episodes of around 4 minutes.

This is why I absolutely love Solar Sands. He has a totally different perspective on this reboot rather than complains like a baby! Solar Sands does not jump
The internet Bandwagon! I totally agree with that the reboot is not the end of animation, this is why I still have faith in cartoons because anyone can make something good. And this coming from someone who was born in the 90’s
